The source material of this translation practice is selected from a travel website www.touropia.com.where people have access to a large number of travel guides around the world. The translator selects three passages as original texts and discusses the methods and techniques used for the E-C translation of travel guides under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory and communicative translation.According to Newmark’s translation theory, travel guides are dominated by informative texts and vocative texts with rich information and simple language. Therefore,to realize the linguistic function of the text, the translator should put the target readers in the first place and adopt the communicative translation strategy to achieve the communicative purpose. In this report, the author analyzes and studies the translation of travel guides from three levels:the lexical, syntactical and textual levels. At the lexical level, the author adopts the methods of conversion of parts of speech, amplification, omission and the use of four-character expressions and buzzwords. At the syntactical level, the author adopts the methods of division, topicalization and shift of voice. At the textual level, adjustment of cohesive devices and reconstruction of coherence are employed.Through the application of translation methods and techniques, the author hopes to improve the quality and readability of the translation, convey accurate information to readers and arouse their interest in those attractions. In addition, the author found that some English expressions are frequently used.If they were applied to the C-E translation practice of travel guides, the language would be more in line with the linguistic features of the original texts.
