With the attention and support of the state,China’s cultural sector has grown quickly, contributing an increasing amount to the country’s GDP.It has also emerged as one of the most dynamic and strategically important sectors of the economy. The rich advantages of cultural resources also give it a strong competitiveness in the global market, gradually forming a pattern of cultural industry to drive the development of other industries, and gradually from a subsidiary status to a pillar industry transformation. In the new era, cultural and creative products and services are more and more concerned and valued by the society,as the importance of the cultural industry grows,so does the representative of the cultural industry.Promoting the high-quality development of the cultural industry is a necessary step to increase China’s cultural soft power and global competitiveness because it is an essential and significant component of high-quality development in the new historical context. It also helps to meet the objective needs of the main social contradictions and changes in the new era.Since 2012,China has gradually elevated the development of the digital economy to a national strategy. As a result, the digital economy and its technology applications have become the primary factor in promoting the development of China’s cultural industry,as well as the ongoing optimization and upgrading of the structure of the sector and ongoing innovation. So,the promotion of China’s overall digital economy and the high-quality development of the cultural industry depends heavily on measuring and evaluating the level of high-quality development of both the cultural industry and the digital economy,as well as discussing the mechanisms and transmission routes of the latter. This study uses data from 30 provincial panels across China, except Tibet,from2013 to 2020.Firstly,a research hypothesis is proposed based on existing theories and scientific studies.Secondly, the entropy approach is used to measure and assess the indicators of the high-quality development of the cultural industry and the level of the digital economy.Next,in terms of empirical study,on the one hand, starting with the effect of the digital economy on the mechanism and high-quality growth of the cultural sector;on the other hand, seting up a panel threshold model to investigate the nonlinear impact of the digital economy on the high-quality growth of the cultural industry;additionally, building a spatial Dubin model to investigate the geographic spillover impact of the digital economy to support the high-quality growth of cultural industry. The precise outcomes are as follows: first,it is clear that the digital economy can encourage the high-quality growth of the cultural sector;yet, there are clear regional differences, with stronger impacts in the eastern regions than other area;Second, through encouraging cultural industry agglomeration, the digital economy can support the high-quality development of cultural industries;Third, there is a threshold effect of digital economy on the high-quality development of cultural industry based on science and technology innovation, and the promotion effect of digital economy on cultural industry becomes significant when science and technology innovation exceeds the threshold value;fourth, there is spatial autocorrelation between digital economy and cultural industry, and there is a positive spatial spillover effect of digital economy among regions. Finally,on the basis of the findings of the empirical study, corresponding policy recommendations are proposed: the development of the digital economy should be continuously promoted, collaboration between regions should be enhanced, scientific and technological innovation should be increased, and the gathering of cultural industries should be promoted,so as to inject new vibrancy into the China’s cultural industries and bring them to a new level.
