Report On Consecutive Interpreting Of Seminar On Movie＆TV Media And Brand Management For Developing Countries Under The Interpretive Theory

As one of the classical theories in interpreting studies,the interpretive theory is widely used in interpreting practice and teaching.The theory holds that there are three stages before the interpreter transforms the speaker’s speech into another language,namely,the triangle model of the interpretive theory: comprehension,deverbalization,and reformulation.This report is based on the Seminar on Movie ＆ TV Media and Brand Management for Developing Countries,2019,a foreign assistance program sponsored by the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province which the author participated in during the summer vacation.From the triangle model of the interpretive theory,the author enumerates and discusses 20 typical cases from her interpreting in the seminar.It is found that her errors in interpreting are mainly attributed to such factors as her lack of bilingual ability,insufficient common sense,inadequate preparation before interpreting,and misunderstanding caused by cultural differences,which affect the author’s interpreting effect to a varying degree.At the same time,the author revises her original interpreting version by the techniques of the interpretive theory,in which cognitive supplement can make the interpreter and the audience get more effective information and enhance their understanding,while logical manifesting can make the interpreting concise and straightforward.In addition to constantly improving the accumulation of professional knowledge,interpreters should also enhance the understanding of different cultures,broaden the knowledge of various fields,make full preparation before interpreting,and combine theories with practice.In this way,interpreters can increase their interpreting ability.Taking the author’s summer practice as an example,this report explores the embodiment and application of the triangle model of the interpretive theory in English interpreting practice.It is hoped that this report can provide some reference for the future practice of English interpreting majors.
