A Report On The Translation Of Manual Of Standards (Excerpt) Of CASA

From July to October 2021,the author worked as an intern in an enterprise of the civil aviation sector(i.e.Longhao Flight Academy in Sichuan Province).During the internship,the author and the other team member finished the translation project of the Manual of Standards issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia.The source text of this report,however,is excerpted from several sections of MOS.The content of these sections is mainly about aeronautic knowledge standards.This report divides the issue of terminology translation into two categories: terminology comprehension and terminology expression.In regard to comprehension,terminology has the characteristic of general language,and also can be used in professional fields as a result of duality.Hence,it is more difficult to understand the meanings of terms.Translators are required to recognize the corresponding identity of terms with the aid of context and clues.In addition,variation occurs due to variability,resulting in homonymy and polysemy.Language workers need to get access to the knowledge of various disciplines,and trace back to the central meaning of these words in order to understand the meanings of terms accurately.As for expression,more attention should be paid to synonymy,parasynonymy as well as unstandardaization of translation.Synonyms and parasynonyms are derived due to synonymy and parasynonymy.When it comes to the translation of synonyms,it is suggested to follow the principle of conventionality in case of a new disorder of naming.Making a list,however,is a recommended strategy for the translation of parasynonyms.As for the unstandardization of terminology translation,the most appropriate translation of terms can be obtained under the guidance of accuracy principle.In the process of translation,translators are also required to take conventionality,transparency,and succinctness into consideration so as to realize the standardization of terms.At the end of the report,the author draws a conclusion that translators need to improve their ability of identifying terms,understand terminology-related theories,and enhance their competence of terminology management in an effort to cope with the issue of terminology translation.
