Silk is not only a textile material, but also a symbol of Chinese civilization. It’s connected with Chinese culture, art, customs, rituals, institutions, science and technology. The translation of silk-related books will not only promote foreign readers’ understanding of Chinese traditional craftsmanship, but also help the silk-related culture go abroad.Based on the fact, this report focuses on the C-E translation of Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 of Chinese Silk Design. In the excerpts,silk-related terms abound, which are featured with rich types, professionalism and great difficulty in translation. Therefore, the translation of terms has become the thorny and important point during the translation practice. In this paper,silk-related terms are divided into four categories:terms of silk fabrics, terms of silk patterns, terms of silk products and terms of textile technology. There are some problems in the process of translating these terms. For example, figuring out the meaning of some terms is not easy;one term has multiple translated names, and some terms bearing cultural significance are difficult to translate. In order to solve these problems and provide English names for these four categories of terms, the translation can be based on the standards of “accuracy”,“professionalism”,“monosemy”,“simplicity” and “nationality”.Meanwhile, various translation methods are flexibly used, such as free translation, literal translation, imitation translation, transliteration plus interpretation,as well as amplification translation. In this way,the standardization of silk-related terms can be promoted and the translation quality of the excerpts can be improved. Some of these terms are expected to be more professional and accurate, with continuous discussion by later scholars for the cause of improving and unifying the translation of silk-related terms.
