This is a report on the practice of Chinese-English simulated simultaneous interpretation. The corpus is a speech delivered by Justin Yifu Lin,a famous economist,at an online reading sharing meeting with the theme of prospects and key reforms of Chinese economy.Taking the speech as the object, the report makes a case study and discusses appropriate interpretation techniques and solutions to the problems existing in the simulated simultaneous interpretation under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory. When reviewing the practice process, the report focuses on the preparations before interpreting, which is described in detail from three aspects, namely, accumulation of terminologies and background information, sight interpretation practice and adaptation of the speaker’s speech style.During interpreting, the report analyzes the problems encountered by the author in the simulated simultaneous interpretation. After interpreting, the report summarizes the comments and suggestions made by the author’s teacher and classmate on the simulated simultaneous interpretation. In the chapter of case analysis, the report closely combines with the Interpretive Theory to analyze the interpretation techniques used by the author in the practice from three stages of comprehension, deverbalization and re-expression.In the stage of comprehension, the report makes analysis from three aspects, that is,information prediction, interference elimination and source language memorization;for deverbalization, the author gives a detailed description in three levels, respectively, words, sentences, and discourse;for re-expression,the author adopts three interpretation techniques, which are addition, omission, and paraphrase.By describing the task and analyzing the cases, the report draws the following conclusions.Firstly, accumulation of terminologies and background information before interpreting is very important and plays a decisive role in the success of interpretation.Secondly, when practicing interpretation, interpreters should train the ability to deal with unexpected situations, which will help to eliminate the negative effects caused by factors like accent, content loss, poor memory, and equipment failures. Finally,it is necessary to strengthen figure interpretation practice and short-term memory ability, and simplify note-taking symbols, which can often save some interpreting time when numbers and technical terms are intensive.Based on the Interpretive Theory and the analysis of specific cases, the report describes the interpretation techniques adopted by the author in the simulated simultaneous interpretation, and summarizes the author’s gains and losses in the practice. The conclusions of the report can provide some reference for interpreters in related fields.
