This translation report is selected from the novel Jean Craig Grows Up.The novel tells the story of how several children of a military family get along and grow up during and after their father’s illness and hospitalization.During the accident,the protagonist of the story,Jane Craig slowly grew up and became a girl with a soft and firm heart.These stories are close to life and full of educational significance,aiming to help children readers establish correct values,outlooks on life and world.The original language is vivid and full of childlike taste.There are a lot of dialogues,psychological activities and action descriptions in the text,which vividly portray the images of the protagonists.This translation report chooses functional translation theory to analyze the strategies and skills adopted in translation from the aspects of phonology,vocabulary,syntax and context.Using interjections,onomatopoeia,or rhotic accent in translation is to meet the phonetic needs of child’s readers.In terms of word usage,onomatopoeia,four-character case or degree adverbs should be selected properly according to children’s cognition and acceptance level;in order to adapt to the syntactic habits of child’s readers,the long and difficult sentences in the original text are processed,and the long,they are condensed into short sentences or reorganized in a comprehensive manner.At the same time,translators use flexible translation strategies to adopt to the linguistic,communicative and sociocultural context of translation.Through this report,the Chinese translation of children’s literature and its translation strategies are explored,on the one hand,it is conducive to promoting the exchange of Chinese and foreign cultures,and on the other hand,it also helps to create a children’s literature translation work more suitable for children to read under the multicultural background. |
