What does the Ta Kung Pao,which has won praise from the academia and politics, look like in the eyes of its peers? How does it evaluate peers? This is the core of this paper. For this reason, this paper uses the historical literature method to explore the mutual evaluation between Ta Kung Pao and its peers by combing and analyzing related data, and discusses the community recognition of China’s press on this basis.Through the screening of 9972 relevant materials, the author selected 192 texts for mutual comments and 1950 texts for peer reports.Based on the above basic data, this paper analyzes the mutual comments between Ta Kung Pao and its peers in the four periods, namely the period of Ying Lianzhi(1902-1915),Wang Zhilong(1916-1925),the period of Xinji’s creation and development(1926.9-1936.9)and the period of Xinji’s heyday(1936.10-1945.8).It is found that the mutual evaluation between Ta Kung Pao and its peers at each stage had both positive and negative comments, and the focus of the mutual evaluation was different. In the mutual evaluation, some consensus on news concepts was reached.Such as the newspaper should actively take the responsibility of the representative of public opinion, the newspaper should maintain its independent status, the news report should ensure authenticity, and "running a newspaper to save the country",which reflected the historical evolution of the mainstream news thought in modern China.
