In language, vocabulary is the most important expression of social change. The legal system of the Yuan dynasty inherited the legal traditions of the Chinese dynasty, but at the same time innovated to suit the times, and this change brought about changes in the legal vocabulary of the Yuan dynasty, resulting in the production of numerous new words. This change brought about changes in the legal vocabulary of the Yuan dynasty, resulting in the production of numerous new words. The collation and study of these new legal words is both useful for a comprehensive understanding of the new face of Yuan dynasty law and of historical significance. It can help to understand the characteristics and rules of the development of ancient Chinese legal vocabulary.Based on the Chinese Dictionary, this article presents a comparative study of judicial neologisms from the perspective of their synonyms on the basis of a comprehensive collation of Yuan dynasty legal neologisms. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the thesis consists of the following three chapters:The collation and classification of Yuan dynasty legal neologisms. The thesis begins with a comprehensive collection of legal neologisms that appeared in the Yuan dynasty based on the Chinese Dictionary, and then classifies them by combining them with Yuan dynasty literature and relevant dictionaries.According to modern jurisprudential classification, these new legal terms can be divided into five categories: judicial, administrative, civil, economic and military law.Among them, the judicial neologisms are the most numerous, have the most obvious legal features, are highly distinguishable, and are not easily confused, and thus have the most research value. The new judicial synonyms of the Yuan dynasty are studied. The paper firstly classifies the new judicial synonyms in the Yuan dynasty from the perspective of semantic field, and divides them into six categories, namely litigation, arrest, trial, judgment, punishment and delinquency, according to the classification of justice in the Modern Chinese Lexicon.Secondly, the composition of these synonyms is objectively described and analyzed in detail by using the method of meaning analysis.Again,a table is used to present the similarities and differences, compare and contrast the differences between the Song and Yuan judicial synonyms, categorise the characteristics of these synonyms, and outline the causes of the synonyms. The paper also presents a study of the causes and significance of Yuan dynasty legal neologisms. The thesis begins by combining the Yuan judicial synonyms with all the new legal words collected in the Yuan dynasty, and examines the reasons for the emergence of new legal words, including the phonetic translation of foreign words, the reduplication of monosyllabic words, the polysyllabicization of diphthongs, the emergence of new things, and the giving of new meanings to old words.Secondly,it is argued that these new legal terms have cultural significance, and that the legal culture behind these new terms can be summarised from the perspectives of administrative law, civil law and criminal law.At the same time, these new legal words also have a lexical-historical significance,as they can make up for the omissions of the first book of the Chinese Lexicon, such as the lagging dynasties and the biased definitions, and are conducive to the development of Chinese lexical history.
