This report is based on the simulated simultaneous interpreting of “Sub-forum 3of the Ecological Civilization Forum of 2020 UN Biodiversity Conference COP15”.The sub-forum focuses on how to practice the concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”.Ecological civilization is of crucial significance to the well-being and the future of human beings.Interpreting practice on the subject matter is both of social importance and of use for students of interpreting to build up the expertise in this area.The author selects speeches delivered by four speakers for simulated simultaneous interpreting.This report intends to unravel the process of simultaneous interpreting and explore the range of techniques to cope with problems in simultaneous conference interpreting under the guidance of relevance theory by Dan Sperber and Deirdre Wilson.In the light of examples,techniques such as anticipation,reformulation,compression and so forth will be studied,which indicates that simultaneous interpreting is audience-oriented and context-dependent.That is,the simultaneous interpreter must align her own cognitive environment to that of the speaker and the audience,and use it both to understand the speaker and produce the interpretation that will be optimally relevant to her audience.It is hoped that this report can be of significance to provide some reference for students of interpreting who prepare for a practice assignment on biodiversity interpreting in international settings.Organized into five parts,firstly,the report describes the background,the source,features,objectives and the significance of the interpreting task.Secondly,it deals with the interpreting process,including preparations before interpreting,implementation of the interpreting task and post-interpreting issues.Thirdly,it provides an introduction to the relevance-theoretical framework.Fourthly,it goes further into case studies on the techniques in simultaneous conference interpreting guided by relevance theory.Finally,it summarizes the interpreting task. |
