The source text of this translation practice report is the fourth and fifth chapters of the famous Australian historian Geoffrey Blainey’s book The Story of Australia’s People: the Rise and Rise of a New Australia. The original book mainly describes the development history of Australia. The selected chapters introduce the development of major Australian cities such as Victoria and Melbourne during the Gold Rush era,as well as the development process of Australian trade unions and the Labor Party. The source text is an informative text.In the process of translating such text, the translator should pay attention to the accuracy and logic of translation, delivering the information truthfully and objectively. The translation of this text is conducive to Australian studies and the understanding of Sino-Australian relations, and to relevant scholars studying Sino-Australian political, economic, and cultural relations. This translation practice, guided by Professor Hu Gengshen’s eco-translatology,adopts adaptive transformation of the source language from the perspective of threedimensional transformation. From the linguistic dimension, the translator adopts amplification and conversion in response to semantic vagueness and ambiguity of sentence meaning and appropriately divides and restructures sophisticated syntactic constructions. From the cultural dimension,in terms of cultural vacancy and inequality, the translator adds the missing cultural information and conveys the cultural connotation to reduce the cultural barriers. From the communicative dimension,in order to retain the communicative intention of the source text during the bilingual transformation and make the translation easier to understand, the translator uses fourcharacter structure and indicates the implied information in the source text.In the process of this translation practice, through the adaptive transformation of the source language from the perspective of three-dimensional transformation,it can be found that eco-translatology has certain guiding significance and practical value for translating informative texts to improve the accuracy, professionalism and readability of translation.
