| This report is based on the C-E translation of Chapters 1 and 2 of An Illustrated Introduction to Qi Culture,which mainly covers the introduction to the Qi culture and its origin.The language is plain in style and the author gives much thought to the use of words.Quotation and personification are frequently used to help make the content vivid and appealing.Under the guidance of Text Typology put forward by Reiss,some four-character words,classical Chinese,synonyms,adjectives and adverbs are carefully analyzed in case analysis,then different translation methods and skills are summarized,which can be read for reference in the C-E translation of texts on Qi culture.The general principle should be clear before translation work.The source text is the informative type mainly and supplemented by the expressive type,so the faithful and objective expression of the source text is regarded as the key to translation.Meanwhile,the feelings implied in the source text should be thoroughly considered and then be shown.After organizing and analyzing work,it is found that relevant translation methods and skills include paraphrase,combination,conversion of part of speech,adjustment of word order and specification.For the translation of some words with rich meanings and concise structure,paraphrase can be used to convey the meaning and effects of the source text.For the translation of some words that have the same meaning or reflect facts,combination can be adopted to objectively convey the information while ensuring the conciseness.For some sentences that show a different structure between Chinese and English,the sentence structure and components can be clarified by means of part-of-speech conversion and word order adjustment,so as to realize a faithful and objective translation.Specification can be used to make the meaning clear when both literal and free translation are not suitable for translating some declarative sentences. |
