Effective Communication Of Information In Chinese Translation Of Financial Texts

The translation practice report selects the financial text Handbook of the History of Money and Currency,and the author selects chapter 27 for translation,analyzes the translation text and the translation process,and finally comes up with reference in translation strategies for the Chinese translation of the financial texts.The author uses the framework of “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation” proposed by Li Changshuan in the “ Translation Tutorial for UN Documents ” to analyze the specific problems and solutions in this translation practice and present them in the translation report,thus suggesting translators how to effectively convey the information when they are dealing with translations of unfamiliar specialized texts.The text is highly academic and contains many professional knowledge,concepts and historical events in the field of finance,so how to effectively convey the information of the original text becomes the focus of this translation practice.After analyzing the development of functionalist translation theories at home and abroad,the author focuses on the development of functionalist translation theories by Li Changshuan’s classification framework and analyzes the specific problems encountered in this translation practice and the process of solving them under three major categories,namely,accurate understanding of the original text,flexible expression of the translation text,and addition and streamlining of the original components.In particular,accurate understanding of the original text can be solved by effectively dealing with financial historical facts,context-specific vocabulary and professional terms without Chinese equivalents while flexible expression of the translation can mainly adopt the methods of neutral narration and reorganization of focal information.Finally,in terms of adding and streamlining the components of the original text,we can adopt the methods of adding necessary logical connections,supplementing the referential content of the original text and streamlining the information of the original text to achieve effective communication of information.This practice report focuses on the specific problems and translation strategies encountered by the author in this translation practice,and also puts forward some feasible suggestions for Chinese translation of texts in the field of financial history from the perspective of a translation practitioner.
