| The press conferences on the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and in Physics were held in Stockholm,Sweden,in October of the year.The conferences presented information about the laureates and the scientific background of the awarding discoveries,and also opened a question-and-answer session for journalists from around the world.In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic,the number of international conferences has decreased significantly.Hence,the author simulated the English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting with the video of these two conferences.This simulated conference interpreting project pertains to the high-end scientific field.The project is carried out in the form of remote interpreting,with the interpreting mode being determined by the way that the speeches are addressed,namely,simultaneous interpreting with text,simultaneous interpreting with slides,and simultaneous interpreting without text.This report begins with an introduction of the project,followed by a review of the entire interpreting process,including pre-interpreting preparation,while-interpreting,and post-interpreting review.Given that the project is featured by its diverse interpreting forms,highly-specialized content,and high difficulty of the speakers’ accents,the author mainly uses Gile’s Effort Model and his Tightrope Hypothesis as theoretical guidance in the case analysis.The author focuses on analyzing the interpreting errors,omissions,and infelicities that occurred in the target speech,while also discussing the coping tactics used in the simulated interpreting practice from both linguistic and extra-linguistic levels.By examining both the major miscues and coping tactics of the target speech,the author summarizes the contents of this report,objectively reflects on the shortcomings of this interpreting practice,and shares insights gained from this practice,hoping to bring reference and inspiration in future study and work. |
