This paper is an empirical and inductive analysis on errors and omissions made during simultaneous interpretation and remedy strategies. On the basis of the recording transcripts of SI, the author explores the underlying reason for making errors and omissions and generalizes the most common and effective remedy strategies for them, and proposed some principle for remedy. This paper consists of five chapters:The first chapter is the preface. The author briefly introduced SI, its working method, criterion as well as the aim of this study. The second chapter is theoretical grounding. The author introduced Gile’s Efforts Model and explained the reason of making errors and omissions based on the Model, which is the capacity requirement may exceed the available capacity at a certain point, or the available capacity is not properly allocated to the efforts of listening and analysis, of short-term memory or of speech production. The third chapter is the research design. Four second year MTI postgraduates of Nanchang University were chosen as research objects. They were asked to do SI on four speeches representative of difficulties in E-C SI and C-E SI. Their interpretations were recorded and relevant data and examples were collected for analysis.Chapter four is research analysis. The research showed that errors were caused by specialized terms, figures, as well as misunderstanding of source language. Interpreters could employ the techniques of "paraphrasing","generalization","stressing", and "simplification" and so on to correct. Omissions were caused by different sentence structures, different positions of semantic focus and different ways of thinking between the two languages. And interpreters could comprehensively employ SI techniques to remedy. In the end, the author proposed three principles for choosing remedy strategies.Chapter five is the conclusion of the paper.
