Simultaneous interpreting with text is a common form of simultaneous interpretation.In simultaneous interpreting with text,interpreters need to listen,analyze and read information in the text and process it into an accurate and complete translation in a short period of time.In this process,interpreters need to have excellent language ability,extra-linguistic knowledge and other translation abilities,to take full advantages of the text,and to properly allocate their energies consumed in various interpretation tasks such as listening,reading,note-taking and expression,etc.Once the allocation is not reasonable,a chain reaction will occur,resulting in a decline in the interpretation performance.This paper takes a business lecture given by the senior leaders of Kao Corporation at the Globis Business School as a case study,focusing on the author’s interpretation performance in this mock meeting,as well as the causes of the interpretation problems,and tries to propose corresponding countermeasures.This paper first introduces the interpretation characteristics of simultaneous interpreting with text,the Effort Model,and lecture-assisting business slides in simultaneous interpretation through literature method,and then analyzes the specific examples where the author used the slides reasonably and efficiently,and the specific examples where the slides were not fully utilized,and analyzes the reasons for the two different situations.Based on this,in order to improve the effectiveness of slides,the author believes that in the pre-interpretation preparation stage,interpreters need to further improve the pre-interpretation preparation,including paying attention to extra-textual information,marking key information and actively communicating with the speaker;when interpreting,interpreters need to reduce the reliance on text and focus more on "listening" rather than "watching",and not stick to the visual information on the slides;in usual practice,interpreters need to consciously improve their multi-tasking ability through various ways.Through the analysis and summary of this interpretation practice,the author hopes to provide some lessons to learners or interpreters who have similar problems in interpretation practice.
