The public management literature raised concerns regarding the need for researching public organizations’ change management due to fewer insights about factors that account for such change management.Social enterprises sit within the third sector of the economy,particularly where the social market or governmental failures exist in the provision of social welfare,and have progressively grown into a vital driver of social progress.This study centers on change management in social enterprises and studies the roles of resource bricolage,slack resources,and team collective efficacy on social entrepreneurship orientation.Insight into these factors is established using the third sector and resource bricolage theoretical perspectives.The analysis is anchored on the research questions:How does resource bricolage develops social entrepreneurship orientation behavior?How do slack resources contribute to the effect of resource bricolage on the development of social entrepreneurship orientation?What is the role of social enterprise team collective efficacy on the link between resource bricolage and slack resources?This study adopted a quantitative method to empirically analyze a cross-section of 283 social entrepreneurs sampled from 31 provinces in mainland China.The results proved that resource bricolage positively influences social entrepreneurship orientation.Absorbed and unabsorbed slack resources positively moderate this relationship.This study also found that social enterprise team collective efficacy positively moderates the relationship between resource bricolage and absorbed slack resources as well as unabsorbed slack resources.The results emphasize the critical role of social entrepreneurs’ team collaboration to garner internal and external slack resources for progressive resource reconfiguration for the development of their social entrepreneurship orientation.This study is a novel conception due to the fewer insights in the literature regarding change management in public organizations and the determinants of social entrepreneurship orientation.Precisely,this study emphasizes resource bricolage,slack resources,and team collective efficacy as key factors for the development of social entrepreneurship orientation:a behavior attribute for Chinese social entrepreneurial organizations.
