| In the context of urban renewal, people’s desire for a better life is getting stronger and stronger, and old neighborhoods can no longer meet people’s living needs.Residents in old neighborhoods are eager to improve their quality of life and realize their dream of livability. The central government attaches great importance to this issue and has issued several policy documents to support it.The 14 th Five-Year Plan explicitly mentions the need to renovate and upgrade old neighborhoods and accelerate the pace of urban renewal. The starting and ending point of the transformation of old neighborhoods should be the residents,so we should pay attention to the participation of the residents in the transformation process of old neighborhoods. The renovation of old neighborhoods is being actively carried out,but the participation of residents in the renovation process lacks sufficient enthusiasm. Therefore, this paper takes Bengbu city as an example, and takes residents’ willingness to participate in the renovation of old urban neighborhoods as the research theme, and investigates the influencing factors of residents’ willingness to participate by means of field research and questionnaire survey, combined with empirical analysis.Firstly,it is necessary to read a lot of relevant literature and books so as to understand the research topic.Afterwards,we visited and interviewed the residents in the renovation area to gain a better understanding of the whole renovation work and their participation, and on this basis,we distributed the questionnaires needed for the study and collected the data needed for the empirical analysis. The survey questionnaires were conducted in the four administrative districts of Bengbu City. Finally, the data received were analyzed by using SPSS26.0 software for empirical analysis to investigate the effect of the seven selected independent variables on the dependent variable residents’ willingness to engage. It is concluded from the experimental analysis that all seven independent variables have significant positively influencing effects on the dependent variable participation willingness,so in order to improve the participation willingness of residents in the transformation of old neighborhoods,we can start from the perspective of the selected independent variables.By combining the empirical results with the previous field research, this paper proposes the following concrete policy suggestions in five ways: structuring residents’ participation awareness, remaking their community identity, enhancing residents’ participation awareness, strengthening the mobilization capacity of community organizations, and solidifying community social capitals:nurturing the spirit of public spirit among residents and increasing the sense of mastership;making good use of differentiated publicity to change residents’ attitudes towards participation;creating a good living environment and improving community services;and giving full play to the strength of community workers to enhance community participation network;bring into play the power of community workers to enhance residents’ confidence in participation;improve the transparency of community information and consolidate information transmission channels;tapping the inner motivation of participation and increasing residents’ feeling of gaining participation;intensifying the construction of community teams of talents and playing the pioneering role of party members;improving the community governance institutions and pushing forward the systematization of community engagement;to construct good neighborhood relations and create an environment of mutual trust and involvement;to push forward the community self-organization and enhance the community resources distribution machine. It is believed that the proposed policies will help to enhance residents’ willingness to participate and help the renovation of old neighborhoods in the context of urban renewal to proceed better and faster. |
