With the continuous advancement of China’s socialist modernization,the social,economic and cultural development of rural areas is also developing rapidly.However,in the process of development and construction,rural areas are also facing a series of new problems and challenges.Among them,the problem of "difficulty in marrying a wife" among older unmarried men in rural areas is more prominent,which brings psychological and emotional problems to men and also has a series of negative impacts on rural society and economy,and becomes a problem that needs to be solved.This study selects M town in Huai’an City,Jiangsu Province,where the problem of "difficulty in marrying a wife" is more serious,and focuses on the real dilemma of "difficulty in marrying a wife" faced by older unmarried men in M town.We collected a large amount of data through interviews and questionnaires and conducted statistical analysis to reveal the difficulties encountered by older unmarried men in the pursuit of marriage in M town and the reasons for them,and put forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.The study found that the difficulties in marrying a wife mainly reflect a series of problems,such as the imbalance of supply and demand between men and women,pressure to pay for marriage,poor marriage channels,social circle restrictions,and career development difficulties.In response to the above realities,this study analyzes the root causes of the problem by applying marriage market theory,marriage squeeze theory and social support theory,and analyzes the main reasons why it is difficult for older unmarried men in rural M town to get a wife from four aspects,including The main reasons include the uneven distribution of education between urban and rural areas,the inadequate mechanism of rural retirement protection,the influence of bad marriage habits,the diversified development of marriage concepts and the low economic level,and the lack of cultural literacy.Finally,based on the above analysis,this study proposes countermeasures to alleviate the "difficulty in marrying a wife",including strengthening national policy support,improving the marriage market environment,strengthening the social support system,and the joint efforts of society,families and individuals.The results and countermeasure strategies of this study are not only applicable to M town,but also can be generalized to other rural areas in China.These research results provide useful reference and guidance for solving the problem of "difficulty in marrying" among older unmarried men in rural areas,which is of great practical significance.The results of this study are intended to promote the joint efforts of all parties in society to contribute to solving the marriage dilemma of older unmarried men in rural areas and to promote the progress and development of society.
