| Since the 18 th CPC National Congress, the core task of urbanization has been to prioritize people and create a harmonious, livable, comfortable, and safe living environment. The 19 th CPC National Congress emphasized the importance of promoting new urbanization and improving the quality of urban living environment, especially in the context of the nationwide fight against COVID-19.The 20 th CPC National Congress proposed the joint creation of a better environment and happier life, with a focus on the resilience and sustainable development of urban living environments. In urban areas, rapid traditional industrialization and urbanization can lead to excessive growth that prioritizes the height of urban development over the quality of such development. This can be detrimental to the development of the urban human settlement environment, which is often restricted by bottlenecks and limited land resources. As a result, improving and upgrading the urban human settlement environment can be challenging. In essence, these challenges highlight the conflict between humanity and the natural environment.Land is not only a vital component of urban settlements, but also plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable development. Therefore, the transformation of urban settlements is inevitably linked to the utilization and administration of land.To create a sustainable and pleasant urban environment,it is crucial to optimize the combination of production factors, efficiently allocate land resources, and achieve a balanced relationship between land use intensity and human settlement development. The Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration plays a crucial role in promoting high-quality economic development and is a crucial region for constructing high-quality residential environments. To address the challenges of limited land resources and the development of urban residential environments, increasing the intensity of land use is necessary. This study analyzes 26 cities within the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration to measure the development level of land use intensity and human settlement environment. The super-SBM model and entropy weight method were utilized for this purpose.Additionally, the study examines the temporal change and spatial distribution pattern of land use intensity and human settlement environment from 2011 to2020 in the same region.Through the coupling coordination degree model and spatial autocorrelation analysis, this study examines the interaction and coordinated development between land use intensity and human settlement environment. The research also explores the possibility of spatial agglomeration. The results are as follows:(1)From 2011 to 2020,the land use intensity of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration maintained a steady increase amidst fluctuating changes, and the regional divergence gradually narrowed. The mean value of land use intensity for all cities is0.938,rising from 0.941 in 2011 to 0.964 in 2020.The "w" shaped variation of land use intensity shows a rapid decrease-rapid increase-gentle decrease during the study period.Meanwhile, the variance of the variance shows a decreasing trend in fluctuation,from0.046 in 2011 to 0.043 in 2020,indicating that the regional differences are gradually narrowing under the drive of collaborative development. From the perspective of spatial distribution, the polarization of land use intensity in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomerations is being moderated, with a decreasing pattern observed along the Yangtze River and the Shanghai-Hang-Jin axis belt, and showing an agglomeration feature in regional distribution.(2)From 2011 to 2020,the overall quality of living, production, and ecological subsystems in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration exhibited a consistent upward trend, with the human settlement environment and its living, production and ecological subsystems increasing by 44.57%,36.73%,83.91% and 20.32% respectively. At the same time, the standard deviation also increases year by year, from 0.090,0.104,0.083,0.131 in 2011 to 0.132,0.139,0.141,0.182 in 2020,indicating that there are gaps in the quality of urban human settlement environment and its subsystems in different cities, and regional differentiation tends to be significant. From the perspective of spatial distribution, the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration features a spatial distribution of human settlements and subsystems that exhibits a regional pattern of decline change. This pattern has Shanghai as the core and Nanjing,Hangzhou, and Hefei as the sub-core,and shows the characteristics of ’core agglomeration, local contiguous’,with good echelon.(3)From 2011 to 2020,the coupling degree and coordination degree of land use intensity and human settlement environment in the urban agglomeration of the Yangtze River Delta exhibited a stable upward trend, with a gradual increase in the trend of balanced regional development. From the perspective of time change,it was observed that the urban land use intensity and human settlements in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration had a strong interaction, with an average annual coupling index of more than 0.900 during the study period.Additionally, the annual average of the coupling coordination degree index of the two systems in the region has been increasing year by year, indicating a constant improvement in the coupling coordination level. In 2020,the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration saw a slight improvement in the coordination between land use intensity and human settlements, reaching a stage of reluctant coordination. From the perspective of spatial distribution, the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration exhibited a spatial distribution pattern of ’core agglomeration and contiguous development’ in terms of the coupling degree of urban land use intensity and human settlements during the study period. The distribution of high-value and low-value areas was clearly discernible. The coupling coordination degree of land use intensity and human settlements in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is spatially concentrated along the Yangtze River development belt and along the Shanghai-Nanjing and Hang-Ningbo development belts, and the coupling coordination degree weakens in the north-south direction.(4)The results of global spatial autocorrelation analysis in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomerations show that the coupling coordination degree of land use intensity and human settlements has an aggregation effect in space, and the development tends to be balanced over time. From 2011 to 2020,the global Moran’s I index of the two indexes were 0.429,0.319,0.317,0.346,0.339,0.325,0.377,0.397,0.362 and 0.288,respectively,showing a spatial positive correlation. The results of local spatial autocorrelation analysis showed that Shanghai,Nanjing,Suzhou,Changzhou,Wuxi,Hangzhou,Shaoxing and Zhenjiang developed into "double high" cities in terms of land use intensity and human settlement environment, while Anqing,Chuzhou,Hefei,Jiaxing,Taizhou,Taizhou,Wuhu,Yancheng and Yangzhou developed into "double low" cities. The spatial evolution law of the coupled coordinated development degree of other cities was not obvious.Combined with the research results of this paper, the following countermeasures and suggestions are put forward:(1)To address local conditions,it is necessary to implement differentiated land control policies. In cities with high land use intensity,it is crucial to strictly regulate the encroachment of other land in order to prevent the expansion of urban areas.Instead, the focus should be on developing and utilizing existing land to strengthen the city’s infrastructure. To optimize industrial land use,we should avoid redundancy and streamline internal industries. We must also rectify backward production capacity and vigorously support the development of land-saving enterprises.By cooperating with industrial transformation and transformation plans,we can make good use of industrial land through effective planning.(2)Taking multiple measures to improve the quality of urban living environment.Comprehensively updating industrial structure and accelerating economic transformation;Improve the public infrastructure, improve the convenience of life.(3)Ecological restructuring can help restore the green background of a city.It is important to continue promoting the restoration and construction of urban ecological spaces, with park green space systems serving as a link to connect various functional spaces within the city.Additionally,we should actively promote a green economy and establish an integrated relationship between natural ecological resources and economic development. |
