Under the background of global deepening the reform of basic education,reading has become an irresistible trend of the times.Reading ability is not only directly related to academic achievement,but also related to personal reality and lifelong development,and also directly affects the international position of a country.Primary school is children’s "reading hunger period",that means primary school is the golden period to improve Chinese reading ability.As the logical starting point of children’s early socialization,family is the main microsystem that affects children’s growth and development,and the effect of family cultural capital is often difficult to be perceived.Hence,it is of great significance to explore the influence of family cultural capital on pupils’ Chinese reading ability.In order to further explore the influence of family cultural capital on pupils’ Chinese reading ability,this study uses cluster sampling to select pupils of grade 3-6 randomly from urban and rural primary schools in different areas of Shandong Province as the research objects.Questionnaires are distributed online by Questionnaire star,and eligible parents and pupils are selected for interview.After consulting and combing the literature,this study puts forward the following assumptions: Firstly,there are significant differences in pupils’ Chinese reading ability under different background variables.Secondly,family cultural capital has an impact on pupils’ Chinese reading ability.Thirdly,family cultural capital has a significant correlation with pupils’ Chinese reading ability.Through the description,difference and correlation analysis of the questionnaire data,the following conclusions are finally obtained: Firstly,pupils’ Chinese reading ability performance is good.Secondly,there are significant differences in Chinese reading ability of pupils under different background variables.Among others,Chinese reading ability of girls is significantly higher than that of boys;the Chinese reading ability of grade four and six pupils is outstanding;the reading interest and habits of rural pupils are significantly higher than urban pupils.Thirdly,family cultural capital significantly affects pupils’ Chinese reading ability.To be specific,the cultural capital of institutionalized form is a solid guarantee to enculturate pupils’ Chinese reading ability;the cultural capital of objectified form is the material basis to nourish pupils’ Chinese reading ability;the cultural capital of embodied form is the potential power to infiltrate pupils’ Chinese reading ability.Based on the above research conclusions,the following suggestions are put forward: one is to make up the cultural capital of institutionalized form cultural capital and lay a foundation for strengthening Chinese reading ability;the other is to enrich the cultural capital of objectified form and build momentum for improving Chinese reading ability;the third is to perfect the cultural capital of embodied form and empower the development of Chinese reading ability.
