There are nine ancient travel essays in the middle school Chinese textbooks complied by the Ministry of Education,accounting for 30% of all ancient literary texts,which shows the importance of ancient travel essays in Chinese subject teaching.The value of the ancient travel essays is both embodied in the content and connotation.In terms of the content,ancient travel essays are related to mountains,rivers and folk customs,which can inspire students’ love for the mountains and rivers of the motherland and social life.Meanwhile,the connotation riches in traditional Chinese culture,which can contribute junior high school students to establish a high degree of cultural self-confidence.Ancient travel essay belongs to the category of ancient Chinese literary texts,which have both the commonality of ancient Chinese literary texts and their characteristics as travel essays.However,in terms of the current situation of Chinese subject teaching in middle school,the situation of differentiation of literary genres is still exists and it is difficult to highlight the characteristics of ancient essays,which is largely related to the unreasonable teaching contents of ancient travel essays.Therefore,the study starts from the commonality of the content selection of literary texts,refers to Professor Wang Rongsheng’s theory of "One Body,Four Faces",and combines the characteristics of ancient travel essays to investigate the teaching content from four aspects:literary language,articles,literature and culture.This thesis is mainly consists of five parts.The introduction mainly expounds the research background,research status,research significance and research methods.Chapter One discusses the teaching value and arrangement of the ancient travel essays in the middle school Chinese textbooks.Chapter Two investigates the selection of ancient travel essays’ teaching contents by using interview method and case study method to find out the problems exist in teaching contents,and then analyze their causes.Chapter Three discusses the selection of ancient travel essays teaching contents from literary language,articles,literature and culture aspects by using the theory of "One Body,Four Faces".At the literary language level,the thesis suggests classifying classical Chinese notional words,understanding the multiple functions of function words and supplementing the judgment conditions of special grammatical phenomena.On the article level,this paper emphasizes highlighting the basic elements of ancient travel essays,clarifying the stylistic features of different type of travel essays,and studying the composition of the articles.In the aspect of culture,it is advocated to excavate and summarize cultural common sense,relate to specific historical and cultural backgrounds,pay attention to the author’s life experience,and critically inherit the sentiments and thoughts of the ancients.The last part,Chapter Four,combines previous study with the examples of The land of Peach Blossom and The Small Tarn West of the Knoll to develop a specific analysis of the teaching content of these two ancient literary texts.
