The study is a research on the relationship between freshmen’s social support and school adaptability,and on this basis,explores the feasibility of improving freshmen’s school adaptability by intervening their social support through expressive writing.At present,with the rapid development and increasingly fierce competition,this new pattern means college students are facing new challenges.Every year,many undergraduate students fail to adapt to college life,resulting in various academic and psychological problems,and finally fail to complete their studies smoothly.It is a great loss to individuals and families as well as to the country.Social support refers to all kinds of help and support that people receive,including material support and emotional support,as well as the subjective emotional experience of being respected,understood and accepted in this process.This study is intended to study the impact of social support on freshmen’s school adaptation and to explore how to improve students’ social support through feasible intervention methods,so as to improve their school adjustment.This study takes full-time college students at an undergraduate university in Nanchang city,Jiangxi Province as the research objects.Through questionnaire survey,interview method and experimental method,776 students in grade 2021 are surveyed by using the "Perceived social support scale" and "Chinese College Students Adaptation Scale".The results are as follows:(1)The social support of only child is considerably higher than that of non-only child.Freshmen from urban areas have significantly higher social support than those from rural areas.(2)The total score of school adaptation of freshmen from urban areas is significantly higher than that of freshmen from rural areas.(3)There is a positive correlation between social support and school adaptation.Social support can positively predict school adaptation.(4)The intervention program based on expressive writing designed for freshmen can effectively improve their social support,and then effectively improve their adaptation to the school,and finally promote the majority of freshmen in transition to adapt to campus life smoothly.(5)Expressive writing is an intervention method that is easy to operate,low cost,short time consuming,and effective.At the same time,it can also be used as an psychological self-help skill,which can be popularized and used in colleges and universities.
