Based on the background of the urban-rural dual economic structure system,a large number of rural laborers have poured into the cities for development.Due to the stricter urban-rural dual household registration system, many children cannot follow their parents to live in the city,so they are taken care of by their grandparents or other relatives.A group of rural left-behind children emerged.Children are important members of the family, but in childhood a series of physical and psychological problems arise due to long-term parent-child separation and lack of social support, among which the problem of loneliness is becoming more and more serious.Left-behind children have a high degree of loneliness, which not only affects their mental health, but also affects their life, learning and social adaptation. Therefore, this study will take a group work approach to help rural left-behind children alleviate loneliness. This research takes the left-behind children in C village of Z city as the service object, and collects relevant data through the scale method,semi-structured interview method and observation method.Under the guidance of Maslow’s Hierarchical Needs Theory and Social Support Theory, this paper analyzes the current situation and causes of loneliness among rural left-behind children.According to the measurement results of the Children’s Loneliness Scale(CLS),eight rural left-behind children with a high degree of loneliness were selected, and their needs were assessed. After the group activities, the process and results of the group work effect are evaluated. The evaluation found that the group work involved in the problem of loneliness among left-behind children in rural areas has achieved remarkable results, and the loneliness of group members has been alleviated to varying degrees. The research results show that increasing the informal support system is an effective entry point to alleviate the loneliness of rural left-behind children, and satisfying emotional needs is the key to alleviating the loneliness of rural left-behind children. On the basis of summarizing and reflecting on the whole research,it is proposed that the problem of alleviating the loneliness of rural left-behind children needs to play the comprehensive role of left-behind children themselves, peer groups, families, schools and communities, build a social support system, and establish a long-term service mechanism. The innovation of this research lies in that, guided by the theory of social support, from the perspective of insufficient emotional support provided by informal support networks,it studies the problem of loneliness among rural left-behind children. However, the group activity cycle is short, which can only temporarily relieve the loneliness of rural left-behind children, and fails to form a long-term service mechanism, which is also the shortcoming of this service.
