History textbooks are important carriers of history education and are significant media to carry out teaching activities and convey values to students.Different history textbooks in different countries have different descriptions of the same historical event,which reflects different national curriculum standards,educational philosophy,historical concepts,ect.The comparison of history textbooks is also an important part of comparative education.This dissertation adopts the methods of comparison study and case study,chooses Chinese unified edition and British oxford edition junior history textbooks as the subject of study,and takes "World War I" which is one of the most significant historical events in modern world history and the important content in history textbooks as the research contents.By finding all kinds of difference between the two editions and analysing the reasons for the differences,we can give suggestions on ministry junior history textbooks and enlightenment about compiling teaching materials.In details,the text of this thesis is divided into four parts.The first part is to give an introduction to the Chinese unified edition and the British oxford edition junior history textbooks in general.The genres,structure systems and content selection of the two editions were summarized.The second and third part is the main part of this paper.The two parts contrast the contents of "World War I" in the two versions of historical materials from two aspects:text system and text auxiliary system.And they summarize the similarities and differences in the title setting,knowledge selection,style of account,column devising,introduction designing,historical data and pictures reference,exercise designing and so on.Finally,the fourth part points out that the main reasons for the differences of "World War I" in Chinese and British history textbooks lie in the differences of history curriculum standards,education ideas,textbook compilation systems,history concepts,textbook writing modes,and many other factors.And in the fourth part,this thesis summarizes the enlightenment to the compilation of Chinese history textbooks:history textbooks need to strengthen guidance to students’ learning,emphasize the use of pictures and tables,focus on presenting history from different aspects and training students’ historical thinking ability and expression ability.I hope this thesis can provide some references for the compilation of history textbooks in China.
