In April 2022,the Ministry of Education issued the "Language Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)",which combined the "oral communication" and "writing" in the objectives of the "Language Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 Edition)" as "Expression and Communication" is one of the main lines of language practice activities.On the one hand,the teaching of "expression and communication" should focus on cultivating students’ ability to use language,which is the task and mission of language subjects.On the other hand,as a kind of "non-verbal expression"-bodily expression-it is also necessary to come closer to the teachers’ vision in order to give greater educational utility and value to the teaching of "expression and communication".The value of "expression and communication" teaching.The metaphysical system founded by Alfred North Whitehead(February 15,1861-December 30,1947),a famous British mathematician and philosopher,is one of the most extensive philosophical systems of the 20 th century.The profundity and insightfulness of his ideas have attracted the attention of more and more scholars in China,and various translations of Whitehead’s works,such as The Purpose of Education and Ways of Thinking,have been published in China.His distinctive theory of expression presented in his works "Ways of Thinking" and "The Formation of Religion-The Meaning and Effect of Symbols" is also of non-important value and significance.He believes that expression is the dispersion of the material of felt experience by the subject of expression,and that the body itself is an expressive being.The subject is not limited to human beings,but animals,plants and inanimate colored shapes are also the subjects of expression.Based on Whitehead’s theory of expression,we find the following problems in the teaching of "expression and communication" in elementary school language.This paper analyzes the "Compulsory Education Language Curriculum Standards" and the "Expression and Communication".In this paper,we analyze the content of "Expression and Communication" in the general objectives,section objectives and learning task groups of the Compulsory Education Language Curriculum Standards(2022 Edition),and address the problems of "Expression and Communication" teaching in elementary school language from Whitehead’s expression theory.In order to improve the teaching of "expression and communication" in elementary school language,we propose some insights from Whitehead’s theory of expression to the problems of teaching "expression and communication" in elementary school language.This study is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction.The first part is the introduction,which mainly includes the origin of the study,an overview of the two themes of "expression and communication" teaching in elementary school language and Whitehead’s expression theory,a definition of expression and "expression and communication",and a description of the purpose,significance,method and innovation of this study.It also defines the concepts of expression and "expression and communication," and explains the purpose,significance,methodology,and innovations of this study.This section serves as a logical starting point for the development of this study.The second part explores the main elements of Whitehead’s theory of expression.Through the study of "The Way of Thinking"(1938),"The Purpose of Education"(1929),and "The Formation of Religion-The Meaning and Effect of Symbols"(1926),the main contents of Whitehead’s theory of expression are summarized in the following three parts: first,what is expression;second,the basic domain of expression;and third,the relationship between expression and importance and understanding.The third part discusses "expression and communication" in the language curriculum standards for compulsory education,and presents and analyzes the content of "expression and communication" in the general objectives,section objectives,and learning task groups of the curriculum standards(2022 edition).The fourth part discusses the main problems of teaching "expression and communication" in elementary school languages.This part is based on Whitehead’s theory of expression,and the analysis of the literature reveals the following problems in teaching "expression and communication" in elementary school: First,there is a phenomenon of leaving the body in teaching "expression and communication" in elementary school.Secondly,students’ desire to express and communicate is low.Thirdly,the evaluation of "expression and communication" in elementary school language teaching is single and suppresses students’ individual expression.The fifth part discusses the implications of Whitehead’s expression theory for the teaching of "expression and communication" in elementary school languages.Based on Whitehead’s expression theory,the following three revelations are proposed for the main problems of "expression and communication" teaching in elementary school:First,"expression and communication" teaching in elementary school calls for the return of the body.On the one hand,teachers should take a risk in their understanding of expression,and on the other hand,they should play the educational significance of symbolic expression in the environment.Second,the teaching of "expression and communication" in elementary school language should stimulate students’ desire to express and communicate.Third,the evaluation of "expression and communication" in elementary school language teaching respects students’ individual expressions.On the one hand,the evaluation methods and standards of primary language "expression and communication" teaching should be diversified to suit students’ individual expressions,and on the other hand,the evaluation subjects of primary language "expression and communication" teaching should be diversified.
