| With the development of teaching Chinese as a second language,the objects of teaching Chinese was mainly focused on universities,senior high school and primary schools,and later gradually targeted a wider group.In the Philippines,Chinese has been included in the national education system,and students have to learn Chinese since kindergarten.However,due to the particularity of teaching objects,children’s Chinese as a foreign language has so many problems.The author selected Xavier School,a typical international school in Manila,the Philippines,as an example.Based on the author’s own teaching experience in Xavier School,this thesis conducts an investigation and research on the teaching situation of children’s Chinese in Xavier School in Manila,Philippines.The investigation contents include the basic information,teaching quality,teaching ability of the teachers,students’ language background,learning motivation,learning attitude,learning interest,curriculum,class arrangement,and cultural activities arrangement.The purpose of this paper is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of Chinese language teaching classes for young childrenin in Xavier School,and know the situation of teaching for young children in Manila,and provide some reference cases and significance for the development of teaching Chinese as a second languageg for young children in Manila,the Philippines.Through the investigation,the author found that Xavier School has the advantages of a superior learning environment,rich teaching resources,and unique management methods for students.However,there are also problems in the region,such as the shortage of teachers,inadequate use of teaching materials,easy to lose control of the classroom,the diversity of student backgrounds,resulting in a single Chinese communication environment and cultural differences between China and the Philippines.In response to these problems,this paper puts forward suggestions to optimize the training of Chinese teachers for young children,increase the training of local Chinese teachers for young children,make reasonable and full use of teaching materials,advocate teaching diversification,enrich language activities,create a Chinese environment,understand students’ backgrounds,respect individual differences,realize cultural differences,and reduce cultural conflicts.It is hoped that this paper can attract more scholars to pay attention to the teaching of international Chinese for children and provide some reference opinions for teachers who will come to Manila to teach Chinese language for young children,thereby contributing the development of teaching Chinese as a second language in the Philippines. |
