| The Philippines is a multi-ethnic,multi-lingual and multicultural country.Most Chinese families in the Philippines use the Minnan dialect,English,and Tagalog as the common languages of social groups.Due to the diversity of languages,the emphasis of Chinese education has also arisen,it varies by different places,schools,and individual.Different schools in the Philippines have different teaching systems for Chinese language education,but generally faces the same current issues: students are not interested in learning,motivation is not strong and result of learning is not outstanding.22 years teaching in Xavier school,I discovered that the motivation of Xavier school students in leaning Chinese is becoming more declining.The goal of the paper is to research,study and provide improvement to the school’s Chinese teaching methods in the future and enhance teaching policy.The purpose of this study is to explore the factors that affect the Chinese language learning of Philippine-Chinese students and its countermeasures.This study adopted student questionnaire survey and conducted interviews through parent meetings.Hence,the study focuses on the seventh,eighth,ninth,and tenth grades of middle school students from the Philippine Xavier School.This paper believes that the main factors influencing Chinese Mandarin acquisition of Philippine Chinese students include:(1)Lack of motivation for learning;(2)Lack of Learning interests;(3)Lack of language environment for learning Chinese;(4)Lack of cultural identity;(5)Lack of correct learning methods;(6)Incoherent teachers,changes of teachers;(7)Political,economic Changes in the environment,etc.This article will address these issues by suggesting countermeasures to explore as suggestions for improving Chinese teaching in the Xavier School in the Philippines. |
