Xavier School is a private Catholic boys' school founded by Chinese and local Filipinos.It is both an overseas Chinese school and a mainstream school.Although Chinese teaching in the Philippines has problems in terms of faculty,curriculum,and teaching methods,etc.,there are some places worth learning.This article will investigate the current situation of Chinese teaching in Xavier School through case analysis,comparison,literature review and the like,which will improve the case study of Chinese teaching in the Philippines by finding out the problems and giving suggestions.This article is divided into five parts: The first part is the introduction.After briefly sorting out some historical backgrounds through referring to relevant literature which affects the development of Chinese teaching in the Philippines,the second part briefly introduces some basic conditions of the school including teachers and student sources,teaching concept and goal,which focuses on the study of "UBD" teaching concept.The third part is a survey of the situation of Chinese teaching including curriculum setting,curriculum assessment,classroom situation,student learning situation and Chinese teacher situation.The scientific evaluation of the curriculum is emphasized through the example analysis,interviews and questionnaires,which includes the examination arrangement,the examination scoring system as well as the comparative analysis of the school examination and the Chinese proficiency examination.The fourth part is about the problems found in various aspects of Xavier School including curriculum assessment problems,classroom teaching problems,student learning problems and teachers' problems.It raises two problems for the course assessment which are vague oral grading standards and abused the rating system.It raises two problems for classroom teaching which are overuse of classroom activities and out-of-control of the classroom easily.It raises three problems for students including insufficient motivation,poor learning habits and "polarization" of the level of student learning.It raises three problems finding in teachers which are the issue of teachers with high mobility,more "younger" teachers and imbalance between men and women teachers.Finally,the fifth part puts forward some specific suggestions for schools,teachers and students.Several suggestions are put forward for the school to adjust teaching objectives and improve assessment.For the teacher,it raised three suggestions including well-prepared for class,reflecting more after class,encouraging students,more attention to student management,improvement of curriculum assessment and maintaining a good attitude.Finally it puts forward three suggestions to students which are finding goals,developing habits of taking notes and learning to self-study and monitor themselves.The author combines actual experience with the previous years' research on thisschool,supplements the school's Chinese teaching research and puts forward the idea of continuing to study this school.Meanwhile,it also constantly improves the research on the current situation of Chinese teaching in the Philippines.
