Affordable Housing For Migrant Workers Research On The Impact Of Social Inclusion

The total number of migrant workers from abroad is huge,there are many inflows into cities,and the migration characteristics are complex.Solving the housing difficulties of migrant workers is an important measure to promote their social integration,and affordable housing is an important policy to cope with the housing difficulties of low-income and middle-income families,including migrant workers.Exploring the impact of migrant workers staying in affordable housing on their social integration is of great practical significance for solving their housing difficulties,equalizing public services and promoting social integration.Based on summarizing the empirical and theoretical research of domestic and foreign scholars on affordable housing and the social integration of migrant workers,this paper analyzes the current situation of affordable housing and social integration of migrant workers abroad in China based on existing macro and micro data,and uses factor analysis to analyze and calculate social integration factors.Based on the dynamic monitoring survey data of the floating population in 2017 sampled by the National Health Commission,OLS regression,quantile regression,robustness test and heterogeneity analysis were carried out to study the impact of social integration of affordable housing on migrant workers in different dimensions and quantiles.The main conclusions of this paper are: First,from the theoretical analysis,affordable housing can significantly promote the economic integration and identity of migrant workers,but the effect on cultural adaptation,social adaptation and structural integration is manifested as both push and pull,and the effect of different urban levels and different migrant worker groups is also different.Second,the proportion of affordable housing for migrant workers is relatively low,lower than that of all other housing types,and the development of affordable housing in different levels of cities is also different: affordable housing with property rights develops better in small and medium-sized cities,and affordable housing without property rights develops better in megacities.Third,the average social integration of migrant workers was very low(36.24),and the average social integration of migrant workers who moved across provinces was lower than that of other floating populations.In terms of dimensions,the three dimensions with higher degree of integration are economic integration,social adaptation and identity,while cultural adaptation and structural integration have a lower average score.From the perspective of different city levels,the social integration of migrant workers in megacities was the best,and the five dimensions were higher than the average.Small and medium-sized cities scored below average in all dimensions and had the lowest overall score.Fourth,from the results of OLS return,all kinds of affordable housing have a significant positive effect on promoting the social integration of migrant workers,and their effect intensity exceeds that of renting and buying houses.Change the sample for robustness test,and the regression results remain unchanged.Fifth,from the results of quantile regression,the impact of affordable housing on the social integration of migrant workers varies greatly at different quantile points,showing an inverted U-shaped feature.At the low quantile,affordable housing has less effect on promoting the social integration of migrant workers.Between 0.50～0.75,affordable housing has a greater effect on the social integration of migrant workers.However,after the quantile of 0.90,the role of affordable housing in promoting the social integration of migrant workers began to decline again.Sixth,the results of heterogeneity analysis show that the difference in the promotion of social integration of migrant workers caused by gender differences is small.The impact of affordable housing on the social integration of migrant workers with different educational qualifications shows a U-shaped characteristic,that is,it has a greater impact on migrant workers who have not attended school or college or above,and has a smaller impact on primary or junior high school,high school or technical secondary school.From the perspective of inflow into the city level,the coefficient of all types of affordable housing in each city level is significantly positive.Self-purchase affordable housing has the largest coefficient in megacities.From the perspective of employment status,the impact of various types of affordable housing on migrant workers with different employment status is quite different,but it is still positive.Based on the above research and conclusions,five suggestions are put forward:First,increase the supply of affordable housing and increase the proportion of affordable housing for migrant workers.Second,make up for the shortcomings of integration and promote the improvement of the social integration level of migrant workers in a balanced manner.Third,attach importance to the positive role of affordable housing in promoting the social integration of migrant workers,and give full play to its policy effectiveness.Fourth,pay attention to group differences,and adopt differentiated affordable housing policies for migrant workers with different integration levels.Fifth,respect individual heterogeneity,and allocate affordable housing and related government resources according to urban policies.
