In the 1970s,China’s family planning policy implemented a significant increase in the number and structure of its population,which played a positive role to a certain extent.But at the same time,there has also emerged a type of family,the one child family.Due to various accidents,the number of families with lost children is constantly increasing,and most families with lost children are no longer able to have children or adopt.With the arrival of China’s aging society,there has been a group of elderly people who are widowed and have lost children,and the number of this group is also gradually increasing.For this group,from initially relying solely on their only child as their spiritual support,to later relying solely on their spouse as their spiritual support,and finally losing their only spiritual support,they have become inferiority complex and sensitive.The support of national policies can to some extent ensure the material needs of this group,but their social interactions have always been overlooked by policies.For this group,social support is the foundation for individuals to construct social support networks,and it is also a guarantee for individuals to maintain normal social life after encountering major events.This article selected a widowed and separated elderly person from H community in Zhengzhou City as the research object.Based on the theory of social support,professional methods of social work for the elderly were adopted.Through understanding their social support situation,a comprehensive study was conducted on their social support situation.Based on their personality,actual problems,and needs,appropriate service plans were provided according to personalized principles,So as to enhance their identification with themselves,regain confidence,establish social connections,enhance social support,and enable them to better play their role,enabling them to embrace the future with a better mindset.This article uses the "Social Support Rating Scale"(SSRS)developed by Xiao Shuiyuan in 1986 to measure the social support status of the case holder,and compares the measurement results before and after intervention.Based on the actual situation changes of the case holder,it is concluded that the case intervention has a significant effect on social support for the elderly who have lost their spouse or independence.This article found that: firstly,emotional support can be provided to widowed and widowed elderly people through both formal and informal social support;Secondly,there is a significant weakness in the utilization of the surrounding environment by widowed and separated elderly people,as well as their poor objective and subjective support;Thirdly,compared to other social work methods,the case study social work method has a more significant intervention effect on the social support of widowed and separated elderly people;Fourthly,social work intervention in social support for the elderly who have lost their spouse or independence,with the psychological issues of the case owner as the starting point,will better carry out follow-up service work.
