| Parents "spend a lot of effort" such as bringing their children to various extracurricular classes to improve their children’s academic performance.Consequently,students’ time after school is compressed,and hobbies are deprived,with an increasingly serious involution of education.For the purpose of curbing this undesirable trend,the State Council has made a decision to carry out a "double reduction" policy to reduce the burden of homework and extracurricular training for students in compulsory education.In this study,students and parents of Grades 7,8,and 9 students from seven junior high schools in Harbin City were selected to investigate the current situation of physical education activities and parents’attitudes after the "double reduction" policy from different perspectives.According to the detailed investigation and analysis performed from the dimensions of students’ academic pressure,on-campus physical education classes,on-campus physical education facilities,extra-campus physical education activities,parental support and physical activities,the findings were as follows:Students faced a heavy academic burden at school,with insufficient sleep time and high academic pressure;The on-campus physical education activities of students were developing in a positive trend,with a rich variety of on-campus physical education classes and students’satisfaction with physical education classes;The lack of hardware physical education facilities in schools limited physical education activities of students in their spare time;The inadequate hardware sports facilities in schools limited students sports activities after school,with an inadequate special programs of students’recess and single form of recess exercises;The students’ overall physical activity level was low;It was difficult for students to engage in physical activities at home and there was poor family physical education atmosphere and weak parental support for students’ extracurricular physical activities;Moreover,parents did not have a deep understanding of the "double reduction" policy and did not support the implementation of the "double reduction" policy.As can be seen from the above findings,there were significant differences in the physical activity levels of junior high school students in Harbin City in terms of grade level,gender,sleep time,academic pressure,academic performance,number of physical education classes,satisfaction with physical education class instruction,physical education class intensity,school physical education facilities,physical education after-school services,frequency of physical education competitions,training experience in sports,personal intention to participate in sports activities outside of school,frequency of sports activities outside of school,parental support,sports idols admired,sports information concern,and importance attached to sports.Upon conducting a multi-factor logistic regression analysis on the collected data,the researcher analyzed 10 influential factors that may affect the physical activity of junior high school students in Harbin,which were grade level(Exp:1.741),gender(Exp:1.635),academic pressure(Exp:3.268),the availability of extracurricular sports(Exp:0.653),the practice of certain sports before(Exp:0.223),the willingness to participate in after-school sports activities(Exp:0.390),the frequency of after-school sports activities,frequency of after-school sports(Exp:0.287),parental support for after-school sports(Exp:0.081),existence of sports idols to admire(Exp:0.665),and attention to sports information in general(Exp:0.699).In response to the analysis of the current survey results,the following recommendations were made.Firstly,a special physical activity support program should be added.Secondly,the selection mechanism of physical education after-school service should be optimized.Thirdly,students’ sports specialization should be developed through joint efforts between home and school.Fourth,teachers take the lead in helping students relieve their psychological stress.Fifth,the school and family should cooperate and communicate in a timely manner.Sixth,the school’s sports promotion should be enhanced to make reasonable use of the school’s publicity area to encourage students to engage in sports activities.Seventh,the indoor sports activity places for students should be expanded to solve the difficulties of students failing to engage in outdoor sports activities in rainy and snowy weather.And finally,relevant government departments should strengthen the supervision over the opening of extracurricular classes outside of school to give students a clear educational environment. |
