| Objectives To investigate the status of trait emotional intelligence and its relationship with self-esteem and gratitude among junior college students; To test the effectiveness of group counseling based on Satir Model in improving the trait emotional intelligence level of junior college students. Methods Study 1:A total of 3986 students from a college in Tangshan were investigated by using the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form(TEIQue-SF),Self-esteem scale and Gratitude questionnaire..Study 2:Based on the findings of study 1,a group counseling program based on Satir Model and a teaching plan for routine mental health education were developed. The experimental group, control group 1 and control group 2were respectively subjected to group counseling based on Satir Model intervention, routine mental health education course intervention and no intervention. The results of pretest,post-test and follow-up test and the feedback results of group counseling were analyzed by quantitative and qualitative methods. Results The results of study 1:1)Junior college students’trait emotional intelligence is above average level, there are significant differences(P<0.05)in gender(t(3984)=3.34),only child(t(3984)=2.38)and student cadre(t(3984)=6.32).The trait emotional intelligence level of male students is higher than that of female students, the only-child is higher than that of non-only-child,and the student cadre is higher than that of non-student cadre;as well as there were significant differences(P<0.001)in grade(F(2,3983)=9.85),origin of students(F(2,3983)=15.90),different family economic level(F(2,3983)=18.96),father’s educational background(F(3,3982)=15.26)and mother’s educational background(F(3,3982)=14.68).The level of trait emotional intelligence in different grades from high to low was sophomore, freshman and junior, and from high to low were cities, towns and rural areas. The students with higher family economic level and higher parents’educational background had higher trait emotional intelligence.2)The total score of trait emotional intelligence is positively correlated with self-esteem(r=0.77,P<0.01)and gratitude(r=0.57,P<0.01).Hierarchical regression shows that self-esteem and gratitude has significant positive predictive effect on trait emotional intelligence and jointly predicted 65%variation of trait emotional intelligence. The results of study 2:The total score of trait emotional intelligence in experimental group and control group 1 was significantly higher than that in control group 2 after intervention(F(2,72)=3.56,P<0.05),and the total score of trait emotional intelligence(F(2,72)=7.55)and gratitude(F(2,72)=3.66),in experimental group and control group 1 were significantly higher than those in control group 2(P<0.05);After intervention, the happiness(t(24)=-3.29),trait emotional intelligence total score(t(24)=-3.06)and self-esteem(t(24)=-3.46)score of the experimental group were significantly higher than before intervention(P<0.01),and the social score of the control group 1 was significantly higher than before intervention(t(24)=-2.59,P<0.05).There were no significant differences between the two variables before and after intervention(P>0.05).Conclusions 1)The trait emotional intelligence level of junior college students is above the average level, which is affected by gender, only child, student cadre, grade, origin of students, family economic level and parents’educational background.2)The higher the level of self-esteem and gratitude, the higher the level of trait emotional intelligence, and the level of trait emotional intelligence was affected by self-esteem and gratitude.3)Group counseling based on Satir Model can effectively improve the trait emotional intelligence of junior college students.Figure 0;Table1 14;Reference 90. |
