| College is an important period for individuals to transition from school to the workplace,and college students need to develop good career adaptability during their college years to cope with the increasingly severe employment situation.Research on career adaptability and its influencing factors can help to understand the current situation of college students’ career adaptability and provide schools and students with clear directions for developing career adaptability in practice.Although previous studies have explored the influence of environmental factors on career adaptability,most of them have studied the environmental factors in microsystem and mesosystem,but they have not explored the relationship between the psychological perception variables(such as relative deprivation)of individuals on macro social environment and career adaptability.This study investigated the influence of relative deprivation on career adaptability with reference to the framework of career construct theory,and further explored the internal mechanism of action between relative deprivation and career adaptability based on the self-control resource model.With reference to the framework of career construct theory,this study examined the current status of college students’ career adaptability,relative deprivation,rumination and psychological capital and their differences in demographic variables with a sample of 406 undergraduate students,analyzed the direct relationship between relative deprivation and career adaptability and the chain mediating role of rumination and psychological capital between relative deprivation and career adaptability,and established the relationship between relative deprivation,rumination and psychological capital.The following results were obtained.The following results were obtained: First,the levels of career adaptability and psychological capital of college students were moderate to high,while the levels of relative deprivation and ruminant thinking were moderate to low.Secondly,there were significant differences in career adaptability among college students in terms of whether they were student leaders,internship experience and father’s education level.Third,relative deprivation significantly predicted college students’ career adaptability negatively and ruminant thinking and psychological capital positively.Fourth,relative deprivation can influence college students’ career adaptability through the fully mediated effects of rumination and psychological capital,respectively,and relative deprivation influences college students’ career adaptability through the fully chained mediated effects of rumination and psychological capital.This study explains the mechanism of relative deprivation on career adaptability based on career construct theory and self-control resource model,and the role of ruminant thinking and psychological capital in it.This study improves the understanding of the influence of psychological perception variables of macro social environment on college students’ career adaptability and provides new perspectives for career development education in colleges and universities.Firstly,relative deprivation negatively predicts career adaptability,and it can be helped to improve the resilience of college students by properly addressing their relative deprivation.Secondly,it is important to avoid the regurgitation of negative feelings by college students to lay the foundation for the development of career adaptability.Finally,the accumulation of psychological capital will help college students better realize the transition from campus to work. |
