Creative writing is imaginative and creative writing.Creative writing,a concept first advocated by university scholars,is gradually emerging from universities and expanding into primary and secondary schools.Creative writing ability emphasizes innovative creative ability, which coincides with the core Chinese literacy "thinking ability" and "aesthetic creation" proposed in the "Chinese Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)".Creative writing ability is an abstract concept, and how to quantitatively evaluate primary school students’ creative writing ability is a thorny issue. There are many studies in the field of creative writing, but there is a lack of an effective quantitative evaluation scheme for creative writing that is based on creative ability, guided by writing ability, and integrated with various aspects of evaluation experience such as creative ability and writing expression ability.Based on the shortcomings of relevant research, the author makes breakthroughs from the following three issues: First, how is the development of primary school students’ creative writing ability today.Secondly, what are the factors that affect the differences in the development of primary school students’ creative writing abilities.Thirdly, what are the strategies for improving primary school students’ creative writing ability based on their ability development and influencing factors. This study uses the literature method to sort out the connotation of primary school students’ creative writing ability, find out the evaluation scale of primary school students’ creative writing ability, and screen out the influencing factors of primary school students’ creative writing ability. This study used the test method to develop a more objective test,"Primary School Students’ Creative Writing Ability Test".886 primary school students were asked to complete the creative composition "Metamorphosis".Then, the creative writing ability of primary school students was evaluated from the two dimensions of narrative ability and creative ability,in order to understand the development trend of primary school students’ creative writing ability. This study uses content analysis to code 262 composition samples from five perspectives: topic type, role type, detailed descriptive words, rhetorical devices, and deformable objects,in order to analyze the specific characteristics of the development of primary school students’ creative writing ability.Using the questionnaire method, this study conducted a questionnaire survey on 886 primary school students’ creative writing ability using four self-reported scales, namely, the Autonomous Writing Motivation Scale, the Creative Fantasy Scale, the Creative Self Efficacy Scale, and the Perceived Teacher Ability Support Scale. The results of this study indicate that the overall creative writing ability of primary school students is on the rise.Primary school students’ narrative ability and creative ability evaluation showed a trend of development and change with the growth of grade, and there was a significant grade difference in their narrative ability and creative ability. There is no significant difference between men and women in the development of creative writing ability, but the average value of girls is higher than that of boys. The main characteristics are as follows: As grades increase, primary school students’ creative writing presents more diverse types of topics, more complex and complex character images, richer detailed descriptions, and more unique morphing objects. In creative writing, primary school students often choose character+event type topics, use metaphorical rhetorical devices, and use visual and auditory words. The most deformable objects written are birds.Motivation for autonomous writing, creative fantasy, creative self-efficacy,and perceived teacher ability support are significantly correlated with primary school students’ creative ability, narrative ability, and creative writing ability.Based on this, for the teacher community, the author proposes suggestions to strengthen the teaching of creative writing based on Chinese textbooks, stimulate students’ independent creative writing motivation, enrich students’ creative imagination, and enhance students’ creative self-efficacy.
