Explanatory texts are closely related to our social life,and the teaching of explanatory texts is also a very important part of language teaching in junior high school.2022 language curriculum standards for compulsory education mentions about the learning content of the fourth grade(grades 7-9): "Read narrative and explanatory texts,discover,appreciate,express and communicate the beauty of family life,school life,social life and nature The students should love and appreciate the beauty of life." However,in the actual teaching process,students’ lack of interest in them and teachers’ failure to find suitable methods for teaching expository texts have led to poor teaching results.The famous British psychologist Tony Bazan summed up the efficient thinking map learning method,in recent years,thinking maps in primary and secondary school subjects are widely used have achieved good results,in language teaching thinking maps are mainly used in writing teaching,reading teaching,reading the whole book,etc.,the application of its application to a specific type of text less research,combined with the requirements of the standard,the illustrative text The author tries to apply the thinking map to the teaching of explanatory texts in order to find a new method for teaching explanatory texts.The study consists of the following four parts:The first part,in the form of an introduction to the background of the study and the significance of the study,analysis of the current situation and development trend of the study,in response to the shortcomings of the study,to clarify their own research ideas,to determine the research method.In the second part,it clarifies the concepts related to mind mapping and illustrative essays,understands the method of drawing mind maps,the theoretical basis of mind mapping,and the characteristics of illustrative essay selection.Combined with the editors’ works and related papers,we analyze the feasibility of application of thinking maps in the teaching of expository texts and the value of thinking maps in the teaching of expository texts in junior high school.In the third part,through questionnaires and interviews with teachers and students,we analyze the current situation of teaching expository texts and the factors related to this situation by combining the examples of expository texts teaching with the questions of the middle school exams.Through comprehensive analysis,it was found that students’ interest in learning expository essays is low and their learning habits are poor due to the boring content and specialized vocabulary of expository essays;teachers’ professionalism needs to be improved,their teaching concepts are backward,their teaching methods are old,and they lack corresponding theoretical study and theoretical guidance.In the fourth part,through the analysis of research data,educational internship,and the review of relevant literature,we propose the application strategies of mind maps in the teaching of middle school language expository texts.Teachers can use mind maps to optimize the teaching process of expository texts,and also use them to taste the language of expository texts,exercise students’ thinking skills,and cultivate students’ scientific awareness.Students can quickly extract the key information of the explanatory text with the help of mind maps to clarify the framework for pre-study and review,which helps to promote the development of systematic and logical thinking of students.In addition,the teaching strategies of explanatory texts under the vision of mind mapping are combined with the standards,teaching materials and students’ needs,and the corresponding teaching design is made for the current junior high school explanatory text teaching of the Ministry of Education.The application of thinking maps in the teaching of explanatory texts is further considered,and the limitations of its use are found,and more reasonable optimization solutions are proposed.
