Mental toughness refers to people’s good psychological adaptation in the face of difficult events.Junior high school students are in the youth development period,in this stage of the students lack of cognition,mood swings.How to improve the mental toughness of junior high school students,so as to effectively prevent psychological problems,is one of the main challenges facing education today.By examining the effects of middle-distance running training on the mental toughness of junior middle school students in different dimensions,this study explores relevant strategies to improve the mental toughness of junior middle school students.Its purpose is to provide reference materials in the process of promoting and popularizing sports in schools and provide reference for the cultivation and improvement of junior high school students’ mental toughness.This study is based on the relevant literature on middle and long-distance running training and mental toughness,and the main research methods are interview,experiment,psychometric and mathematical statistics.The influence of middle and long-distance running training on the mental toughness of junior high school students is taken as the research object,and the Adolescent Mental toughness Scale is used as the research tool to design the content of middle and long-distance running intervention experiment.Sixty primary school students meeting experimental conditions were selected from Jingkai District experimental School of Hefei City as experimental subjects,and randomly divided into experimental group and control group according to stratified sampling method,and the difference test was conducted before the experiment to ensure the homogeneity of the two groups of students.In addition to the regular physical education courses,the students in the experimental group received 45-minute intervention training for middle and long-distance running3 times a week.After 12 weeks,the change of mental toughness of the experimental group and the control group before and after training was analyzed.The results showed that the total average score of mental toughness of junior high school students was 86.87.From the perspective of different genders,the average score of mental toughness of boys in junior middle school was 87.38,and that of girls was 85.66.In terms of emotional control dimension,there was a significant difference between men and women(P < 0.05).From the perspective of different grades,the psychological toughness score of the first grade students was 88.95,the second grade students was84.35,and the third grade students was 87.98.The psychological toughness level of the first grade students was significantly higher than that of the third and second grade students,but the difference was not significant(P > 0.05).After 12 weeks of middle and long-distance running training,the average score of mental toughness of students in the experimental group increased from 85.43 to 95.00,with a significant difference(P < 0.01).The mental toughness score of the control group was increased from 87.67 to 88.33,with a small increase and no significant difference(P > 0.05).The following conclusions can be drawn:(1)The psychological resilience of junior high school students is a good adaptation to difficult events under the interaction of five factors: goal focus,emotional control,positive cognition,family support and interpersonal assistance.It is not static and can be influenced and improved through external methods;(2)As an intervention mode of mental toughness,middle and long-distance running training can effectively improve the mental toughness of junior middle school students,and can play a certain role in a long time;(3)The factors of mental toughness of junior middle school students differ in gender and grade as follows: the mental toughness of male students is significantly higher than that of female students,and the differences in emotional control factors are significant;There was no significant difference in the factors of mental toughness among students in different grades,and students in grade two had the lowest score of mental toughness.(4)Middle distance running training can effectively improve the level of mental toughness of junior high school students.Of the five factors of resilience,the improvement in emotional control and interpersonal assistance was more significant.
