In the new round of curriculum reform, high school general technology specifies that teachers should actively use a variety of ways and strategies to exercise students’ innovative thinking and hands-on practical skills. Therefore,it is worth exploring the possibility of constructing a set of strategies to cultivate students’ innovative skills in the teaching of general technology in high schools. This study constructs a strategy for developing students’ innovative skills in the teaching of general technology by conducting three rounds of action research in School G.Students create creative electronic works as an example of a collaborative inquiry-based project-based learning activity.Through the iterative design and application of the three rounds of action research, strategies for cultivating students’ innovative abilities in general technology teaching are refined, and practical references are provided for general technology teachers to cultivate secondary school students’ innovative abilities.Firstly, this study defines the concepts of high school general technology and innovation capacity through the current state of research at home and abroad, and uses constructivist learning theory, learning by doing theory and project-based learning theory as the theoretical basis for this study.Secondly,a combination of questionnaire and teacher interviews,a subjective and objective investigation method, was used to investigate the current situation of students’ innovative ability development in the teaching of high school general technology in this school. The findings revealed that students did not attach importance to the learning of the subject, lacked the awareness of active learning and inquiry as well as lacked sufficient self-confidence to create, while teachers lacked a systematic logic for the cultivation of students’ creative abilities.Again, the above problems are combined with theoretical and practical research to construct strategies for developing students’ creative abilities in the teaching of general technology.Three rounds of action research were carried out on the application of the cultivation strategies in the teaching of general technology, and after each round of observation and reflection, the constructed strategies for cultivating students’ creative abilities were continuously improved and optimised. After the three rounds of action research, questionnaires, classroom observations, evaluation of students’ work and student interviews were used to test the effectiveness of the strategies for developing students’ innovative skills. The independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test of the questionnaires and the analysis of the percentage of students’ work evaluation levels yielded that the overall level of students’ innovation ability on the post-test was significantly higher than the overall level on the pre-test,and students were nurtured in all four dimensions of risk-taking,curiosity,imagination and challenge.Through classroom observations and student interviews,it was concluded that the constructed cultivation strategies were effective in enhancing the sense of independent learning and inquiry, and could improve the efficiency of students’ creative work. The study shows that the strategies proposed around the cultivation of students’ innovative ability in high school general technology teaching are effective to a certain extent. The strategies for cultivating students’ innovative abilities in high school general technology teaching include six aspects: building a platform for disciplinary thinking training;organising competitions to promote innovative thinking;preparing guided learning projects to optimise knowledge construction;providing systematic resources to strengthen practice;establishing multiple assessments to broaden the breadth of thinking;and reflecting on projects to expand creative thinking.
