Innovation is the fundamental driving force for promoting socio-economic development and human civilization progress, and is a key feature of talent cultivation and development in the 21 st century. In order to cultivate national innovative talents,in 2016,China released the "Core Literacy for Chinese Students to Develop",which listed innovative literacy as one of the key literacy for students in the 21 st century. With its interdisciplinary and innovative nature,STEAM education has obvious advantages in effectively promoting the cultivation of students’ innovative literacy.Primary school,as the first stop for students to systematically learn knowledge and cultivate innovative literacy, can lay the foundation for students to achieve higher goals. However, due to the majority of research focusing on the cultivation of innovative literacy among college students, neglecting the cultivation of innovative literacy among primary school students, and the lack of a specific and operational STEAM teaching model,it is difficult for primary school teachers to carry out innovative literacy education. Therefore, this study used the literature research method to sort out the research related to STEAM education and innovation literacy of primary school students in lower grades, determine the evaluation dimensions of innovation literacy, and try to build a STEAM teaching model based on Piaget’s cognitive Development theory,Taylor’s principle, constructivism theory, experiential learning theory, and creative investment theory, following the research approach of "problem analysis-model construction-educational experiments-effectiveness testing-summary and reflection",in-depth research is conducted on the strategies for cultivating innovative literacy among lower grade primary school students. The main research process consists of three stages:Firstly, construct a teaching model. This study sorts out elements such as teaching philosophy, teaching objectives, teaching processes, teaching evaluation, and learning support services, establishes the principles for constructing teaching models, designs specific links for teacher activities, student activities, and project stages, determines the main activities of teachers and students before, during, and after the STEAM project, and constructs the RED-5EX STEAM teaching model for cultivating innovative literacy among lower grade primary school students.Secondly, practical teaching mode.Using educational experimental research methods and strictly following the requirements and procedures of educational experiments, experimental control classes were established in the lower grades of Q Experimental School in G Province to carry out STEAM themed project practice. After each theme was completed, experimental data was collected and teaching reflections were conducted.Thirdly, test the effectiveness of the mode.By using video analysis, student work analysis, and interview methods to analyze educational experimental data, the experimental results showed that the innovation literacy of students in both the experimental and control classes showed an improvement trend, and the overall innovation literacy of students in the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. The final research conclusion is as follows:(1)The RED-5EX STEAM teaching model effectively cultivates students’ innovative literacy;(2)Rooted in curriculum standards,it helps to connect students’ cognitive development and teaching objectives in the school age group;(3)STEAM education theme projects effectively exercise students’ innovative awareness and abilities. |
