| Influenced by the fourth industrial revolution and knowledge-based economy,the innovation strength of each country has become a concrete manifestation of the new round of international competitiveness.As we all know,the key starting point and core foundation of innovation lies in research universities.On September 11,2020,the important proposition of developing new research universities was clearly put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping.New research universities as an emerging term have been widely concerned and hotly discussed in our academic circles since then.So far,however,new research universities have cast a veil of mystery over many scholars.A number of new research universities have emerged rapidly around the world.Since their inception,these institutions have had a vision of becoming world-class research universities,and have made remarkable achievements in cultivating innovative talents and applying academic research.However,little has been written about the development history and success secrets of these new research universities.The experience of the new research universities in successfully passing through the turbulent period of establishment and achieving leapfrog development in a short period of time is worth learning from and making reference to.This study takes case studies as the core,and under the guidance of innovation ecosystem theory,four new research universities,namely Southern University of Science and Technology,Westlake University,Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Pohang University of Science and Technology,are used as case studies to explore the development models and construction strategies of new research universities.Firstly,this study analyzes the role of innovation ecosystem on university,government and industry based on the innovation ecosystem theory.Then,this study establishes the analysis framework of Sustainable New Research University(SNRU),and innovatively proposes the specific indicators of SNRU under the four indicators of teaching,research,social service and organization and management.Secondly,Under the background of the establishment of new research universities in China and South Korea,this study analyzes the four case institutions using the framework and draws the following conclusions: interdisciplinary and integrated education and training model,high level of faculty strength,international exchange platform,research content that responds to industrial needs,application-oriented research direction,close industryacademic-research relationship,new organization system,diversified funding sources,and sufficient resources.These are the core and secret of successful operation of new research universities.Finally,this study proposes the construction strategies of new research universities from the perspectives of government,university and industry in the innovation ecosystem,and provides suggestions for the future development of new research universities in China through mutual cooperation,value co-creation and synergistic development among government,university and industry. |
