According to the "Chinese Language Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)",the guidance for reading famous works in each unit has been changed to a learning task group for reading the entire book. Moreover, the original term "literacy" has been changed to "core Chinese literacy",which puts forward a more accurate and clear positioning of the requirements for Chinese language proficiency. It can be seen that the reading of the entire book is increasingly valued, with a focus on cultivating students’ core Chinese literacy in various aspects. As an expanding learning task group and also a course content of revolutionary culture,Red Star Over China has multiple values such as ideological, journalistic, and literary, making it a masterpiece that delves deeply into the culture of the red revolution. The integration of narrative theory can enrich the way works are interpreted, and deepen the deep learning of the internal structure of the work from the narrative form.Based on this, this study explores the appropriateness of combining narrative theory with the teaching of whole book reading in Red Star Over China, and attempts to provide teaching strategies that can be referenced for the teaching of whole book reading of this genre of non-fiction literature,in order to improve the effectiveness of teaching whole book reading in non-fiction literature.Firstly,a survey and data analysis was conducted on the current situation of teaching the whole book reading of Red Star Over China, and it was found that there is a tendency towards homogenization in teaching, which doesn’t clearly define the characteristics of non-fiction works. In response to this phenomenon, the necessity of integrating narrative theory was proposed, with narrative theory as the theoretical support to guide students to grasp the method of reading non-fiction literature, which is different from novel reading. This not only opens up new ideas for teaching, but also facilitates the enhancement of students’ reading literacy and enriches their understanding of the work.Secondly, using narrative theory to interpret the Red Star Over China, exploring the characteristics of non-fictional narration from three levels:narrative structure, narrator, and narrative time. After in-depth interpretation of the work, effective teaching strategies are explored from three perspectives: narrative structure, grasp of factual records, and grasp of fiction.Red Star Over China is a non-fiction literature.Among them, authenticity is reflected in the "truth" of objective facts and the "truth" of narrative presentation. The objective and fair narrative stance of the narrator, the mutual confirmation of multiple narrative voices, and the atmosphere created by the narrative rhythm,as well as the repeated language, constantly reproduce the scene.Fiction is mainly reflected in reasonable imagination and subjective tendency. It can be seen that the characteristic of non-fiction works is the interweaving of authenticity and fiction.Due to the low content of fiction,it does not hinder the spiritual expression of non-fiction works to some extent.Thirdly, design a corresponding teaching design. Finally,it is suggested to integrate narrative theory. That is to find narrative knowledge that is suitable for analyzing the work, explain in a simple manner and update teaching ideas.
