Homework burden is a long-standing educational problem in primary and secondary schools in China.The specific reasons are the excessive amount of homework,the poor quality of homework content and the alienation of homework functions.In July 2021,the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council announced the Opinions on Further Reducing the Burden of Homework and Off-Campus Training on Students in Compulsory Education(hereinafter referred to as the “Double Reduction” policy),which came up with specific requirements on the burden of homework on students,such as comprehensively reducing the total amount of homework,reducing the duration of homework,improving the quality of homework design,and incorporating homework design into the teaching and research system.Therefore,the optimization of math homework design is an important measure to implement the “Double Reduction” policy,and is an inevitable choice to promote the overall development of students in compulsory education.First of all,in the background of the “Double Reduction” policy,by using the questionnaires,interviews with teachers,and textual analysis of math homework,we realize the current status of the implementation of eighth-grade math homework.It is found that there are the following problems for eighth-grade math homework: heavy homework burden for students,simple math homework types,simple math homework evaluation methods and excessive amount of written math homework.Secondly,by consulting the research experience of math homework at home and abroad,this paper proposes the principles of math homework design for eighth-grade in the three aspects of educational policy,educational theory and homework practice,and puts forward the following solutions:(1)Update the concept of homework design with quality education as the guide;(2)Integrate the design of unit homework to reduce the burden and increase the efficiency of assignments;(3)Enrich the types of math homework and focus on the development of core literacy;(4)Understand students’ learning differences and promote hierarchical homework design;(5)Pay attention to the diversification of homework evaluation and enhance the effectiveness of homework feedback.Thirdly,this paper states the basic path and quality evaluation index of the eighthgrade math homework design,and then explore the “design-implement-feedback” homework research closed loop.Finally,we take the mathematics textbook of the eighth-grade of the Peoples Education Press version as an example,and design the “Properties of Isosceles Triangles” new lesson homework,“Topic Study: Shortest Path Problem” exercise lesson homework,and “Axis Symmetry” unit review homework in order to test the feasibility and effectiveness of the homework design cases by implementing and reflecting on the above three cases of math homework design.Through the research on the design of eighth-grade math homework under the “Double Reduction” policy,we wish that the quality of eighth-grade math homework can be improved so as to effectively reduce the excessive homework burden of students.At the same time,we hope that the research results of this paper will have some guiding effective on front-line math teachers.
