Professional Research On The Practice Of Medical Social Workers In Public Health Emergency

As a public health crisis,COVID-19 is not only an impact on the health care system,but also hides social problems such as secondary disasters of disease.The practical experience and methods of medical social work support it to become an important mechanism for crisis intervention.It should assume professional responsibilities such as helping to alleviate the social crisis and helping the public to adapt to the new normal,but in fact it does not give full play to its professional advantages,and even has the subjective feeling of de-professionalization.In view of this realistic tension,this study uses qualitative research methods to refine professionalism into four aspects : professional knowledge and technical methods,value norms and moral goals,institutional settings and social institutional environment.The professional practice of medical society during the epidemic was studied,and data were collected from 10 front-line social workers through in-depth interviews.The study found that medical social workers undertake tasks such as resource linking,psychological support,case work for vulnerable groups,and interdisciplinary cooperation in emergency situations.In the field of professional knowledge and technical methods,there is a fracture between theory and reality.It is necessary to integrate bottom-up empirical knowledge on the basis of top-down instrumental knowledge.In the field of value norms and moral goals,the care for minority vulnerable groups is neglected in the inclusive service,and the professional value commitment should be re-emphasized,and the normalized stable service for the public should be emphasized.There are medical professional authority and administrative authority in the institutional setup.The author combines the administrative authority within the hospital and the social institutional environment outside the hospital.In medical professional authority,conditional cooperation with medicine should be carried out on the professional basis of clarifying the decisive factors of health.In the administrative authority,medical social workers are faced with the contradiction between administration and profession,the conflict between efficiency and charity,and need to be transformed into public health social work to achieve large-scale social services,so as to obtain the confidence of policy advocacy.Finally,based on the thinking about the professionalism of public health emergencies,the author puts forward four ideas and suggestions for the development of social work after the epidemic on a practical level,hoping to help social workers change their professional downward impact,restore professional development confidence,regain professional resilience and vitality,and truly promote professional sustainable development.
