Modern prose occupies a dominant position in middle school textbooks for a long time,but in the case of students ’ limited reading and life experience,prose teaching still faces many challenges.In this situation,it is one of the effective ways to make the modern prose teaching out of the predicament by using the " text reading " theory proposed by the British and American " new criticism " school to guide the modern prose teaching in junior high school.The theory of " close reading " requires teachers and students to focus on the article itself,pay attention to the author ’s writing logic,diction and sentence making,language itself,and achieve the purpose of blending with the author by understanding the deep content of the article.Based on the theory of "close reading of text," this paper takes the contents and teaching cases of modern prose in junior middle school as an example to explore the effectiveness of improving modern prose teaching in junior middle school and the applicability of cultivating students ’ reading literacy with the method of " close reading of text."This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter focuses on the characteristics and teaching status of modern prose in junior high school,summarizes the two characteristics of modern prose in junior high school,and clarifies the important position of modern prose in junior high school textbooks.The second chapter investigates the current situation of modern prose teaching in junior high school.From the examination questions over the years,it is found that there are three basic problems in modern prose teaching : students ’ interest in reading is not strong,teachers and students do not have a comprehensive understanding of prose style,and teachers do not pay attention to text interpretation.Therefore,in the third chapter,the connotation of ’ close reading ’ theory and its value to modern prose teaching are introduced.In the fourth chapter,the author extracts three strategies of ’ close reading ’ applied to modern prose teaching.By guiding students to read the language of prose text,the image of prose text and the context of prose text in teaching,it provides an effective grasp for prose teaching in junior high school.The application of the theory of " close reading " to the teaching of modern prose in junior high school not only provides a breakthrough for solving the teaching dilemma of modern prose,but also provides a new way of thinking for the design and reflection of middle school teachers in reading teaching.
