The 2022 Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards clearly state that the curriculum at the compulsory education stage should focus on the core competencies of the subjects in order to determine the goals of the curriculum,select the content of the courses and introduce innovative teaching methods,which has caused widespread attention in the Chinese educational community to cultivate the basic competencies of students,and its importance is self-evident.At present,Chinese English curriculum reform has developed greatly in theory,but there are still many problems in practice.The new curriculum standard emphasizes the need to develop students’ basic English language skills in real-world situations,therefore,in teaching practice,the effective development of situational teaching contributes to helping students better develop basic proficiency in the subject.However,current research on primary school English situational teaching based on subject core literacy is still inadequate.Therefore,according to the requirements of the new curriculum standards,this study organically combines the two,takes the core literacy of English subjects as the perspective and the situational teaching of primary school English as the main line to carry out the research,so as to provide the direction for improving the situational teaching of primary school English,so as to truly implement the cultivation of students’ core literacy of subjects.Based on the classroom operation essentials of situational education proposed by Li Jilin,this study adopts literature method,classroom observation method and interview method to select 28 videos of primary school English class as observation objects and conduct in-depth interviews with 12 primary school English teachers.This thesis investigates the current situation of situational English teaching in primary schools from five dimensions: "beauty" as the realm,"thinking" as the core,"feeling" as the link,"children’s activities" as the approach,and "the surrounding world" as the source.Through data analysis,it is concluded that the existing problems of situational English teaching in primary school are: too much dependence on multimedia,situational creation is mere formality;Teaching language is not vivid enough to inspire students to think;Teaching evaluation method is single,evaluation content is lack of pertinence;The problem is inflexible and students’ awareness of active inquiry is not strong;Attach importance to objective situation and ignore subjective emotion;Group cooperation lacks timeliness and does not promote full participation;Teachers lack the theoretical awareness of core literacy and are detached from the requirements of core literacy.Contextual education is not enough to develop core competencies,and the emphasis on part of the literacy needs to be improved.Rely on textbook content,situation material is single;Moral and aesthetic education methods are improper,teachers pay little attention to.After analyzing the existing problems in the current situation,the present study analyzes the causes of problems from aspects of the concept of teaching teachers,teaching skills,emotional investment,resource acquisition and so on.Finally,from the perspective of teachers and schools,propose improvement measures to promote the effective development of situational education,which is conducive to the development and implementation of students’ core literacy.
