With the development and evolution of the education system, diplomas and education experiences have gradually become a tool for screening talents in society. Therefore, education is becoming an important approach for individuals to achieve a higher social stratum, which leads to a more intensive education competition between different social classes.Rural families have a strong desire to rise up along the social echelon. To win this education contest, they get more involved in the competition for better educational resources.Especially, they hope to obtain these resources by accompanying their children to school and hence improve their children’s future competitiveness or even the family’s social class. This study focuses on rural parents who come to the city to accompany their children’s schooling and analyzes their behavior via educational sociology theories.Literature review, interview, observation, and case study are used to study the phenomenon of accompanying studying in rural families. The research process is as follows: First,we review the research literature on the phenomenon of accompanying studying to gain a better comprehension of this topic.Secondly,we identify the interviewees, formulate the interview outline, and adjust the outline accordingly as the interview carries on.After the interview,we organize the data obtained and further analyze the representative characters, events, and discourses. Finally, write the paper. This study depicts a vivid picture of rural accompanying parents through interview details. We use Bourdieu’s family capital theory as the framework to analyze the action of rural parents integrating various types of family capital to accompany students in the cities shouldering hardships and difficulties. There are psychological and economical burdens to rural families based on the discussion of their motivation from three aspects: social, educational, and family. Therefore, this study proposes some possible improvement strategies.Through the study,we found that the current social competition is intensifying, and this intensification is contributing to a more intensive competition in education. The phenomenon of accompanying studying is a reflection of the current fierce social competition in the field of education. The accompanying conduct in rural families reflects the educational anxiety of the lower strata of society, and words such as "anxious","annoyed" and "afraid" were often mentioned by accompanying parents during the interviews. The fundamental purpose for rural families to accompany their children to the city is to improve their social status. To achieve this goal, rural families break through many obstacles, devote their whole family’s efforts, and pay a high price to participate in the education competition.he phenomenon of accompanying studying has brought drastic changes to rural families, aggravating their both psychological and economical pressure. To alleviate their stress,on one hand,we should focus on narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas and improving the mechanism of talent selection and education resources allocation,on the other hand,we should improve the way rural families raise their children while improving their family education.
