The group of senior physical candidates in China has always been part of a high pressure society, and higher stress levels can cause anxiety in physical candidates, which can have a serious negative impact on training and study,as well as endangering physical and mental health. As a state of consciousness that arises from focusing attention on the experience of the present moment, positive thinking levels have gained initial academic recognition for their impact on adverse emotions such as anxiety. However, the underlying mechanisms of action between the two have not yet been uniformly concluded.A review of the relevant literature reveals that previous studies are mostly cross-sectional in nature and the evidence for inferred causality is not strong enough. Therefore, this paper explains the causal relationship between the two by adding mediating variables to make the inferences more convincing.Based on this, the following two studies are conducted in this paper.Study 1,a cross-sectional study. Objective: To investigate the relationship between positive thinking and state anxiety and the mediating role of psychological resilience among senior secondary school candidates. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted by administering the "Five Factor Positive Thinking Scale","Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale" and "State Anxiety Scale" to senior high school candidates in Hebei Province."One-way ANOVA,independent sample t-test,structural equation modeling and Bootstrap test were conducted to process the data. Results: There were significant differences in positive thoughts, psychological resilience and state anxiety among senior physical candidates on demographic variables(e.g.gender,fresher and former, years of training).Positive thoughts and psychological resilience were significantly positively correlated(r=0.50);positive thoughts and state anxiety were significantly negatively correlated(r=-0.40);and psychological resilience and state anxiety were significantly negatively correlated(r=-0.43).Further analysis revealed that psychological resilience partially mediated the effect between positive thoughts and state anxiety, with the mediating effect accounting for 45.83% of the total effect.Study 2,a randomised controlled trial.Aims: To investigate the effects of positive thinking training on state anxiety in senior physical candidates,to verify the mediating effect of psychological resilience between the two,and to improve the strength of inferential evidence from the study. Methods: A mixed experimental design of 2(group)× 2(time)was adopted,in which 37 physical examiners with high state anxiety scores were randomly divided into an experimental group of 19 and a control group of 18,respectively,and the experimental group received a 7-week positive thinking training intervention while the control group received no intervention during this period. Before and after the training, the participants were given the Five-Factor Positive Thinking Inventory, the Adolescent Psychological Resilience Inventory and the State Anxiety Inventory. Results: Over time, the levels of positive thinking and psychological resilience in the experimental group increased significantly(p<0.05)and the level of state anxiety decreased significantly(p<0.05),while there was no significant change in the control group(p>0.05);the results of Bootstrap analysis of the mediated effect of psychological resilience were consistent with the results of Study 1.The specific findings of this study are.(1)The state anxiety of the senior three candidates was moderately high;there were demographic differences between positive thoughts, psychological flexibility and state anxiety.(2)There is a correlation between positive thoughts, psychological resilience and state anxiety among senior III candidates;positive thoughts are significantly positively correlated with psychological resilience, positive thoughts are significantly negatively correlated with state anxiety, and psychological resilience is significantly negatively correlated with state anxiety.(3)Mental resilience partially mediates the relationship between positive thoughts and state anxiety.(4)The positive thinking training programme in this study is feasible and effective, and can improve the level of positive thinking and psychological resilience of senior physical candidates, thus reducing the level of state anxiety.
