As one of the classic works of the Ming Dynasty,Journey to the West has high literary value and rich cultural connotation.It plays a very important role in helping students to accept the edification of excellent traditional culture in classical ancient literary works,cultivate reading ability,improve reading quality and enrich the spiritual world.The textbook compiled by the Chinese Department of junior high school lists Journey to the West as a required reading for teachers and students of junior high school.Reasonable arrangement of teaching content is an important prerequisite for students to read effectively.However,most of the current researches on the reading teaching of Journey to the West are carried out around the teaching design,teaching methods and strategies,while the teaching contents of the reading guidance of Journey to the West are relatively few.In order to improve students’ reading effect,this study focuses on the teaching content of the reading guidance of the whole book Journey to the West.The research is carried out from two aspects: one is to analyze the current situation and existing problems of the reading guidance teaching content of the whole book Journey to the West from three aspects: curriculum,textbook and teaching;Second,from the perspective of teaching content design,this paper puts forward some suggestions for the reading teaching of the whole book Journey to the West.The thesis is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction part,which expounds the origin of the research,sorts out the research status of the whole book reading teaching and the whole book reading teaching of Journey to the West,summarizes the current research results and shortcomings,and determines the research content and significance on this basis.Finally,corresponding research methods are proposed according to the research content.The second chapter focuses on the literary value and teaching value of Journey to the West.The analysis of literary value combined with the ancient and modern scholars’ interpretation of this novel text,from the ideological content,artistic image,narrative structure,language style four aspects of the discussion.By combining the literary value of Journey to the West with the course goal of reading the whole book,the teaching value of reading the whole book is obtained,namely stimulating students’ enthusiasm for inquiry,enriching their spiritual world and improving their cultural accomplishment.Through the elaboration of literary value and teaching value,this paper provides theoretical reference for the selection of reading teaching content of the whole book Journey to the West.The third chapter uses text analysis to analyze the content of the curriculum standards related to the reading of Journey to the West in the Chinese Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 edition)and the Chinese Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition)respectively.At the same time,it also analyzes the section of "Introduction to Famous Works" of Journey to the West in unified Chinese textbooks for compulsory education.Through the analysis of the content of curriculum standard and "introduction to famous works",the teaching content under the state of "should be" is clarified,which provides certain reference for the research of the following paper.The fourth chapter analyzes the teaching content of the reading guidance of the whole book Journey to the West with the analysis of lesson examples,and finds out five problems existing in the design process of the current teaching content: the teaching content fails to reflect the characteristics of "integration",the teaching content is generalized,part of the knowledge content is missing,the knowledge content is superficial,and the active content is lack of teacher guidance.The fifth chapter aims at the problems existing in the teaching content of the reading guidance of the whole book Journey to the West.On the one hand,it puts forward four principles that should be followed in designing the teaching content and suggestions on the optimization of the teaching content.On the other hand,it presents an example of the teaching content design of the whole book of Journey to the West.
