A Study On The Current Situation Of 8th Grade Students With Mathematics Learning Difficulties In Lhasa And Teaching Strategies

Basic education in Tibet has developed by leaps and bounds,especially since the reform and opening up,and education in Tibet Autonomous Region has made outstanding achievements.However,in any school,there are students who have difficulties in learning mathematics(referred to as "students with difficulties in mathematics").These students are not interested in mathematics,do not listen to lectures carefully,lack the ability to learn mathematics,and even have aversion to learning.In this paper,we take the eighth grade students in Lhasa city as the object,and use the relevant theories of psychology and education as the theoretical support.Through questionnaires and interviews,we randomly surveyed 714 students in the eighth middle school,seventh middle school,fourth middle school and third middle school in Lhasa city,and at the same time,based on the students’ two examination results,we used the bottom 30% of the performance ranking as the basis for selecting the number of students in trouble,and screened out 345 number of students in trouble.The questionnaire was designed in eight dimensions,with specific analysis of mathematics learning interest,mathematics learning motivation,mathematics learning methods and habits,mathematics learning attitude,mathematics learning willpower,family,school,and social aspects.In order to further analyze the causes of numerically troubled students in order to propose teaching strategies for transforming numerically troubled students,an interview survey was also conducted with eight numerically troubled students.According to the results of the questionnaire data analysis,we found that the causes of students’ difficulties in mathematics are as follows:from the students’ own side,they have weak foundation in mathematics and have difficulties in connecting knowledge points;they are not very interested in learning mathematics and have not developed good learning methods and habits;their motivation to learn mathematics is not pure and they do not realize the importance of mathematics;their will power to learn mathematics is not strong;from the students’ own side,most of the teachers use only lecture method in order to The majority of students have fear of teachers and are afraid to communicate with them;the cooperation between home and school is not smooth;parents have a serious "achievement-only" mentality and backward educational philosophy;and "various tutorial classes" are prevalent in the society.In view of the above causes of students’ difficulties in mathematics,we propose strategies to transform students’ problems in mathematics,so that students can learn the basic knowledge;try to develop scientific learning methods and habits;introduce mathematical culture,stimulate students’ interest in learning,and cultivate students’ willpower in learning mathematics;create conditions in school to build a harmonious teacher-student relationship;and make joint efforts between school and parents to realize joint collaboration between home and school.
