Rural boarding school is a form which is of great importance at compulsory stage.It can not only centralize the resources but also facilitate the fairness of education.Due to the unique nature exited in the rural boarding school,the time that students spend in the school adds a lot.Therefore,more importance should be attached to the extracurricular life of students in rural boarding school.The quality of extracurricular life not only relates to the enrichment of students’ extracurricular life,but also affects the overall development of the students in rural boarding school.In order to do an overall survey on the current extracurricular life of students in three rural boarding middle schools in S county of Hunan province,this study mainly adopted two ways: questionnaires and interviews.The research results show that there existed some problems in the students’ extracurricular life in rural boarding schools,including planning,organization,supervision and evaluation.The problems about planning include the lack of students’ free time and the improper use of it,plans of extracurricular activities are not defined;The problems about organization include the deficiency of professional teachers for extracurricular activities,low frequency of its implementation and the low participation of teachers,the deficiency in the forms of the extracurricular activities;The problems about supervision include school leaders’ insufficient supervision and inspection of extracurricular activities,inadequate incentives for students and teachers;The problems about evaluation include the defective feedback system,and the lower evaluation for school’s extracurricular activities.The main reasons include the government’s insufficient investment,its responsibilities are unclear,supervision and inspection mechanism are undefined;school’s neglect of extracurricular life’s value and its lack of management institution and incentive system,inadequate teachers and facilities as well as its low usage rate,unreasonable teachers’ structure and lack of full-time life instructors;teachers’ cognitive deficiency about extracurricular activities,the long working hours and enormous pressure for teachers;students’ cognitive deficiency about extracurricular activities and the indifference from students’ family due to the poor finance situation.To make the extracurricular life of students in rural boarding schools better,it’s indispensable to take some steps.They include: shift the mindset to know the value of extracurricular activities better;establish a sound system to improve the management procedure;equip adequate facilities and instructors to create more favorable environment for after-school life;intensify the stimulation mechanism by establishing a reasonable evaluation system;highlight the dominant role and satisfy the actual demand of the students;improve the supervision and inspection mechanism as well as strengthen financial support;increase attention and support;enhance awareness and cooperation.
